It seems crazy now to think that Callas had to fight for top dollar and the ideal artistic conditions. She was worth every cent, indeed she still IS earning record companies money, she still draws people from all walks of life to the magic of opera.

Maria Callas was never a drug addict. After Onassis died. She lost the enthusiasm and wanted to die. Onassis was the love of her life.

BRAVO! BRAVISSIMO! VIVA LA CALLAS! How much did Del Monaco make? Or Corelli, etc? Maria CALLAS should have gotten a % of the box office, she earned the right to be demanding, all geniuses do. Caruso was certainly a temperamental artist and was applauded for it. She alone reinvented Opera, was hated by the Italians because she was Greek and occupied like a great warrior Scala. Eventually, the Italiano surrender to her so great was her talent.

Regardless of what country she was singing in she was deeply appreciated by all. La Scala is not the Mecca of Opera. Each country has a great Opera Houses and great opera aficionados. Подивилась фільм "Каллас назавжди" і розтривожилась до тиску.. Слухаю частенько двох - Сезарію Евору і Марію Каллас.. Одна здється, могла мати все, і на додачу - любов усього світу, але в 50 років втратила смак до самого життя, і не боролась... Сезарія не мала нічого, ні краси, ні достатку.., ледве вміла поставити підпис.. Під кінець життя вийшла на висоту, користувалася любов"ю свого народу, і багатьох шанувальників по світі.., є пам"ятник, і пам"ять..

Her husband made demands that Bing could not possibly agree to, for example, he insisted that Maria be excluded from the annual Met tour which all the Met's necessary rooster members, stars included, were required to participate in. Today nobody can understand how vitally important the tour was to the Met but more to the point, a much-awaited event to the thousands of opera fans all around the country, as it was their only opportunity to see first-rate opera live in performance.

I suppose you're right. Look at Nilsson, Sutherland, Tebaldi and Price. They all became company players for the benefit of the MET. They were all happy to Tour and help raise funds for the company.

Alex Daniel her husband was a greedy individual. It's no wonder she left him for another Freak Show so sad for Maria. All Maria wanted is to be loved. & have children. Something most women want. @@peteradaniel It was probably unrealistic to expect Maria to be available for the tour. As the most in demand opera singer in the World such an undertaking would not in all probability be possible. However it´s history now and though often in bad sound quality we have many live performances on record as a testament to her unrivalled artistic genius.

This video seems to be a disparaging way to reduce Callas to a hysterical lady, shouting and complying for more and more. Maria Callas was absolutely not that! She is still the most "devastating" genius appeared on scenes. Devastating above all for all her contemporaries. She destroyed the old and wrong imposing the right and best way to make music singing.

Back in the 1980s the Bravo Channel was all classical. You might want to try their archives my friend. I tape a lot of these documentaries interviews on that channel on VHS tape. Take care Arnold Bourbon Amaral

Even though she speaks English during that rant, I can't help not to notice the "Greekness" (well..obviously) in her temperament and expressions. It is like watching an angry cousin, a mother or a female stranger in the street shouting and "hissing".
