I sang this aria for a recital and was encouraged to listen (but not too much) to a few different singers perform this piece. So many beautiful and varied versions are out there but Maria Callas' made me cry. I wish I was alive when she was at her peak to have heard her sing in person. Thank you for sharing!

Reminds me of war time when generations were lost and peace was here. This song is from 1918 I month after the war. Such a beautiful song reminds me of my grandad and grandmother too. Such a voice on her takes you to a place each of us will get what I mean.

I'm no "connoisseur", but I enjoy listening to opera etc. every now'n then. :-) Don't know a lot about Callas. But from what I do know, such as her interpretation of this song, I don't see why she's been named "the greatest" etc. Caballe sings this one better. And not only her.
