"You get e-mails from fans, and they go, 'It's disgusting, it's terrible,'" he said. "I said, 'No - you've got to realize that she's on our side. Someone's actually out there promoting one of our songs. You should give her all the help she can get.' "Ultimately, it's just a great honor for us (if) anyone does that - and does a real genuine version, not recording the song and making fun of the band, like the Michael Jackson thing by ALIEN ANT FARM ('Smooth Criminal'). With Mariah it was a genuine version of our song. I actually think that's a huge compliment.

I haven't heard this song in years. I used to listen to this all the time back when Charmbracet came out. I clicked this video tonight and was able to sing along to every run. I still knew every word of her version of this song after all this time. It made me cry. It's a testimate to Mariah and the power of her music in people's lives. Mariah Carey is not perfect, but she is masterful. What she has been able to create musically, and the lives she's been able to touch should always be remembered. I'm gonna try to remember that.

I love how everyone is saying that this version sucks. I too prefer def leppard's version but this is a pop song, a pop ballad even, through and through. Def Leppard would be the first to admit they're a pop band who happen to play loud guitars. They write pop tunes, they write hits, and it's no wonder why Mariah Carey would do a cover it, cos it WORKS.

You've got me thinking here. When this came out, they hadn't crossed over yet, so they were still trying to rock out. The pop hits were more Duran Duran's job. On the other hand, I know they glossed up around the Hysteria album, and from then on they were definitely aiming more at pop. Still I always thought of this as more of a rock ballad.

I lvoe how she sang this and sang the rock like her way. There are powerful, metallic, heavy vocals while having a angelic, soft, light sweet vocals.
