The difference I see is the passion with which David sings. He believes what he's singing. Maria looks like she is just singing a song for the camera.

Ur pretty stupid considering the song came out in 1994 and it didn’t even have a music video until like 2002. So what camera was she singing to if there was no music video in the original track?🤣 Not only that but Mariah DEFINITELY sung it with more passion than David or ANYONE else. Ur just being biased and letting ur music genre taste skew ur opinion. Mariah literally put her HEART for this song and u can hear it.

It's hard to compete with David Phelps. His voice is perfect, in my opinion. She does a great job, as well. I do like that David Phelps is live.

Pretty hard to compete against him? Buddy Mariah’s vocal gymnastics in this song were LIGHT YEARS harder than what David did OBJECTIVELY. Any great singer could achieve what David did, especially any opera vocalist. Literally almost NO one could and has sung O Holy Night like Mariah did even tho SOOO many have attempted it, it’s not even close. Mariah belted with much harder placement, jumped octaves with EASE and riffed way more and with more complexity, and had a 2 octave register flip in there, not to mention CONSTANT insane high belting phrased. He can’t compete, I’m sorry but we have to be serious for a second. Mariah’s version is overall way more vocally demanding, exhausting, AND complex.

David Phelps sings from his soul, Mariah Carey not so much, in my opinion. David has so many outstanding Christmas songs… “We are the reason”, “Fall on your knees” and then there is Whitney Houston’s “I have Nothing” and Elvis’ “can’t help falling in love”…

Not a Mariah fan at all. First of all, her dress. Not something I would want to see in a church, at all. Movie premier maybe. She does have a excellent voice, but all the runs, up and down, up and down, the melody kinda get lost. On this song, David wins, hands down. Not only for his conviction of believing what he's singing, but his delivery, tone, diction, breath control, and last but not least, holding the notes forever and no runs, just the note of the melody. So many of today's singers can't hold notes. They do the runs like Mariah. Not a fan of the runs, a couple of them are fine, but when the whole song is runs, too much. So far me, there was no comparison.

Mariah sings without soul and without faith…not even her physical beauty can make up for her lack .. to her it’s just another performance for her audience. David Phelps sings with his heart focused on His God that was born, lived and died, was resurrected and Who is Coming again SOON!! Mariah comes a very distant second in the quality of performance of this song!!
