@@oneilgeraldyou and Jason M. Legrair are real valuable vocal coaches on YT. And you not only have technical and theoretical understanding of singing, but also a great ear and musical sense. It's great if someone knows how a sound is produced physically, but you can only really teach singing when there's that deeper understanding of 'why?' and not just 'how?'

Mariah's voice is both an instrument and and emotion. Love how you point out that her emotional state will have an impact in her sound, i also believe that to be the case, and part of what makes her vocals touch my soul in ways that very few other singers have.
@federicochang3249Ай бұрын
But that obsession for sounding “perfect” and her stage freight is what probably frustrates her everytime something “imperfect” comes out of her mouth and it shows… if only she felt cool and relaxed everytime like among friends and not being all dressed up and perfectly maked up, then i’d still appreciate her MORE as an artist!

I feel like she was slightly exaggerating a lighter tone here, because even listening back to the studio version, her voice is deeper in the approach on B4s and so on.. a few of the high belts here sound like the studio version though.. she slayed this
@whitneyhouston1122Ай бұрын
Yes her voice is naturally big and dark if you listen to her first two albums she started lightening her voice during musicbox.
@MusicHistorian90-ir5pfАй бұрын
@@whitneyhouston1122 Nope. Quite the opposite. Her voice is neither big nor dark. Big voices are voices like Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Shirley Bassey, Chaka, etc. Mariah's voice is not like that; hers is medium-small and light. And I don't know why I keep seeing dark and Mariah's voice in the same sentence. Mariah's voice was never dark - dark voices are Phyllis Hyman, Cher, Anita Baker, Toni Braxton, Des'ree, Lalah Hathaway, etc. Mariah's voice had a more noticeable husk in her early days but she has never had a "dark" voice, especially across her belting register. The only thing that mimics a darkness in her voice is her husky lower range; that's it.

how are we hearing her and everything else if there wasnt a mic anywhere in that room?
@oneilgeraldАй бұрын
When a musician says “without a mic”, we’re talking without a handheld mic going into a mixer. Of course, the way we see anything on video is because a mic is either on the phone or another one capturing the room. The emphasis here is that Mariah was amplifying her sound all on her own here. It’s quite uncommon to see for a professional singer.

I honestly think they dubbed the “sleigh bells” part ngl
@oneilgeraldАй бұрын
THIS is why I did this performance. Dubbing in this case would actually be relatively impossible to do individually. Unless they did a few takes, but even then, isolating that one note would again have been virtually impossible to do this seamlessly. This performance is most likely one take from beginning to end! 🥰

@@Mariahs5thOctave Thank you! this was in 2012, I remember in those times to see a widely image of this perfo with a guy keeping a boom mic. It how the things happen on TV
@Mariahs5thOctaveАй бұрын
@@santiagonazaranchorena2247 So, the reason it's still considered a micless performance is because a boom mic isn’t used to amplify the artist’s voice directly in the same way a handheld mic does. The boom mic picks up general room sound and background noise, but it’s not designed to capture vocals with the precision needed for a live performance. Mariah didn’t have a mic in her hand or on her, so she wasn't using one to project her voice into the sound system. Even though the boom mic might pick up her voice in the background, the fact that she wasn’t holding or wearing a mic means it’s still a micless performance-she was literally singing live without any direct amplification from a mic. It's a big deal because it shows her vocal power without relying on tech to boost her sound.

Why do human beings waste their time Analyzing singers and their voice? What difference does it matter? All professional singers voices change! Its happens to all singers! No one and I mean no one goes unscathed.
@edglebennett6312Ай бұрын
I enjoy Mariah Carey Regardless of her voice or hitting notes!
@oneilgeraldАй бұрын
The difference is simple. When we analyze highly revered singers, we humanize them. When we humanize them, we treat their voices as worthy of empathy and grace. We also illuminate the experiences of other singers and human beings like them and thus making it a level playing field for everyone. At least that's what it is on my channel. Online vocal analysis has been used to demean, belittle and dishonour singers. I use it to celebrate them and make singing accessible for everyone that wants to do it. So for me, analysis is far from a waste of time. Blessings to you! 🥰
