The instruments also cover a lot of the details, background noise, etc. Especially because backing vocals are not meant to be upfront. I have mixed a whole choir during the pandemic, each singer recorded with their own smartphone. It was a mess, very hard to put the files together and treat each source separately, but surprisingly we got great results.

One of the reasons Mariah is my favourite female musician is actually because of her tone changes. I haven't ever seen an artist who has a chameleon like ability with their voice that changes every year like her.
