Whitney...and let me explain how big this was. Her version sold 1.2 million copies and hit the Billboard Hot 100. It hit the top 10 (number 6) and stayed on the charts for 27 weeks. Houston was the first and only artist to place the anthem on the charts since the 50s. It raised over half a million dollars for charity, and became the fastest selling single by Arista at the time of its release. That version of the anthem was a monster.

She made the listeners outside America know this song and consider it as a popular song, made it to the top 10 chart and sold millions of copies. That’s why many singers call her version is a gold standard inspiring them when they sing this song. She has a female tone but more heroic than any males when singing a patriotic song. That’s why it has been played anytime a grand event emerging in the country. It makes me remember the heroic way she performed with an orchestra for the “One moment in time” song. Even some opera singers praise her for such a solid and super performance.
