Maria, This hummingbird is magnificent. OI paint hummingbirds, but I only wish I could paint them like you do. While I was watching, I could see my feeder being visited by my female ruby throated hummingbird. Thank you for showing us how it should be done!

🤗🌸Thank you so much Harshal, I appreciate that! The wings were so much fun to paint. I was also trying here a new watercolor paper... it was quite different from my regular Arches. This one was Bright White tho.. fun to see colors even more vibrant 😅

Beautiful! It's just amazing how you manipulate the water and pigment to get such intense detail but with that softness and transparency of watercolor.I have such a hard time getting the right degree of wetness on the paper and not having it be too wet or dry out too quickly. And I use Arches paper so it's just my needing more practice.

Thank you so much Renee🌹😀 yes it's definitely all about practice, the biggest mistake I see in my students work is that they use too much water on their brushes when they go for the paint, especially when painting wet on wet, so I always try to encourage to have a towel on their desk, a regular bath towel to constantly wipe your brush.

I like how in the end that it "looks" like a watercolor. I've done one, very detailed and realistic, but it comes out a little stiff. You have just enough detail and looseness to be identifiable as watercolor.
