The first minute and the last minute of this album are both sheer musical euphoria, and to this day they keep me coming back. That F#5 is still my favourite Josh Ramsay vocal ever. It’s just as desperate and impassioned as the best moments from Welcome to the Black Parade, and the lyrical conceit really makes it feel like the end of a journey.

I love how Masterpiece 1 starts out with a "Bohemian Rhaspody" / "Because" combo, gets very "Good Vibrations" in the middle and ends with a mirror of "Astoria". I think it's genius that they can make you instantly think of songs you grew up with by using similar harmony arrangements but make it completely original and new all at the same time. They did that all through the Astoria album too and it's just fantastic! These guys are so brilliant. Like really.

Love this form of artistry. Literally a masterpiece. A new age style take on Bohemian Rhapsody with their vocal, orchestration and key changes. I feel Freddy Mercury would be proud and a fan. Pure artistry and talent, meaningful lyrics and ability to convey and envoke emotion.

The change from “I could wreck it if I had to, but I’m the wreck so what would that do?” in Masterpiece Theatre I, to “I’ll wreck this if I have to, tell me what good would that do?” in Masterpiece Theatre III feels like the singer/“protagonist”’s decent into mental turmoil as the album goes on. The beginning feels whole and generally happy, whereas the end feels chaotic and somewhat desperate, along with the slight feeling of tiredness as it goes on, like its taking more effort to stay sane and put up the familiar theatric front. This is just my interpretation, but I find this aspect to be important to me anyhow.

Also... is there no one else whose favorite part is part 2? I feel pretty alone on that front. I mean, not so much the small pop section in the middle, but the acapella blended with it and the driving drums and strings underneath and just AHSFJJk--.... that octave slide just under the "first it comes on, creeping quiet". Glorious. And then the soft choral rise after that! And the absolutely gorgeous calm chorus under the semi-frantic and purely powerful vocals over top. I can not get enough of these songs...

@devinl55759 жыл бұрын
jackiejw45 Here is how I interpret it, which is just me. I am sure everyone interprets it very differently as it is very esoteric in nature: As far as I can see the first one part is the voice in his head predicting how this relationship is going to play out because he knows well how he has behaved in the past. "If I burn out and slip away, this is just a part I portray" - To say that he will act uninterested but he isn't really uninterested in the relationship and its an act he performs in response to an uncomfortable situation (maybe feeling like he is not the dominant force in the relationship) and so he pulls away to get the upper hand and throw his partner out of confidence. "I'll wreck this if I have to, but I'm a wreck so what would that do" - Tells us that he has done this before, its a double meaning of word wreck, In the first sense I could wreck it as "Do a great job at it", but in the second part he's honest in saying that he's really an emotional mess, so what's the point of winning this emotional warfare through the act he puts on.I believe the songs in the album are supposed to reflect the progression of his relationships and some of his experiences. We come to the second part where we see he is in the middle of this relationship ("... in this masterpiece I"ve made...") struggling with his "habits" and wanting to change his ways and salvage this relationship but he can't overcome these bad relationship habits. He recognizes they are his own fault as he said in the first part - "Entirely guilty by design". He explains that his relationships end up becoming a series of repeated actions that he doesn't really notice until its too late. "First it comes on creeping, quiet..." - he starts his retreating actions in small ways. We see his regret in the line "Can I hide in you instead?" but he can't because this is a submissive action and I am sure something about this relationship is preventing him from really being himself (maybe she prefers super alpha males and that's just not him). So he feels trapped in that he must behave this way to maintain the upper hand and all he really wants to do is be honest. The third part he has come to realization that he must confront this problem he has "I have a new disease in me..." and the song is a portrayal of the struggle where he bounces back and forth between reasons to stop the act, but he's so comfortable in it that its going to take him overcoming a part of himself. We see this in the drastic dynamic shifts in the tone and style of the music and the new dialogues whereas a lot of the first two songs were composed of repetitions. He pulls in quotes from the previous songs to point out reflection to events in the pass that he is trying to logic through and change his ways. Its hard to explain because the detail of the story that this song puts in my head is so deep, but this is a snapshot. I love songs like this that really churn the gears in my head and make me try to analyze what compelled the artist to write the lyrics and structure the intonations in the way they did. It is indeed a masterpiece that unfortunately most people won't appreciate just because of the style. Music at its best.

+jackiejw45 This is an older message, but some stuff - about the musical side of things. It comes across as a concept album, but apparently the three parts were all different versions written at different times - it wasn't designed as a whole. One of the things that I love about it is the bits of most of the other songs that have been stolen, and changed a tad but incorporated - Look around round" coming from Celebrity status as are "all the words to impress shiny girls out of their dresses..." I heard part 3 first and just listened to it over and over and over - and no matter what, I could not get sick of it. The vocal texture is so rich and theatrical.I'll leave the interpretation of the substance to others/\...
