Everyone’s bitching about the fact that this song is 5 years old… meanwhile, I’ve been hearing/singing “Don’t love the bottle with a deeper disdain” rather than “distain” this entire time. Both words work functionally, but they aren’t really synonymous. Knowing this changes up the whole vibe of this song and (for me, personally) makes it feel almost like new again. Heck yeah, silver linings!

At first, I thought this too, but then after a few relistens it really grew on me and I couldn’t listen to it without that part. I think if you think of that crescendo as the highly epic and emotional conclusion, the ramp up makes more sense. Madness has finally consumed the character as his world breaks, and he’s become something much worse than the ghosts that haunted him.
