Marie Antoinette still got a sweeter deal than many princesses. Her sister fell in love with nobleman but was forced to marry another one of higher status. Her favorite sister, Maria Carolina was forced to marry an ugly man who was engaged to their previous sisters and they hated each other for a while. Louis XVI had his issues but he was also as inexperienced and shy as Marie, not cruel nor ugly and they grew up together and grew to love each other.

and I also love that both her sister eventually become the power in those state, because their husband would rather go hunting or something. Maria Carolina became the real power behind Naples and Sicily, Maria Amalia became the real power behind Duchy of Parma. they really became just as capable as their mother, even Marie eventually showed those determination in her latter years

That’s a cute outfit they’ve got Marie Antoinette in. She looks like Alice in Wonderland-and I guess that’s the point? She’s the young girl who gets thrust into this bizarro world and has to live in it.

yes and I suspect also to showed how court of Vienna was much much much more relaxed than court of Versailles. in actuality, Marie wore all French outfit as everyone in Europe dressed in French fashion.

I love how Louis Almost Looks like he is hiding behind those men. He Barely Makes Eye contact with his Fiancé. Also in real life Marie was very excited to meet Louis XV. (Louis XVI grandfather). Jason schwartzman Really showed how young and shy Louis XVI actually was.

Yes you are right. Marie Antoinette was very exited to meet and marry Louis. They grew to really love eachother. Louis was painfully shy and introverted person. Some believe he was in the autism spectrum. I believe that myself. Lack of eye contact, shyness, high intelligence, awkwardness, etc. He had the classic symptoms of autism spectrum.

The Austrian court seems colder and not so opulent as the French court, but it also seems much more relaxed in some ways.

In a way it was. It was also hard for Marie-Antoinette to adjust to the elaborate rituals of the French court, and she didn’t take them seriously.

The Austrian court was still heavily formal but the Austrians weren't known for being particularly hedonistic so Marie would have been shocked that the French King's mistress was not only tolerated but given a semi-official status. Also, I note that perhaps Austria was more highly cultured with many Classical musicians performing there.

Its not as if Marie was some peasant girl. Her father was the Holy Roman Emperor, a position that historically was the King of the Kings in Europe. Thus from a class standpoint, she was higher than the Dauphin.
@angelabby2379
@angelabby2379 2 жыл бұрын
true but her father is not the Holy Roman Emperor, her mother is the "Holy Roman Emperor", she is the last Habsburg, after that she was forced to change her name to Hasburg-Lorraine.
@iycrm4583
@iycrm4583 Жыл бұрын
@@angelabby2379 however her mother got to choose who she wanted to marry. She was able to marry for love instead being originally forced into arranged marriage. Although I found it quite interesting that Maria Theresa arranged marriages for her daughters or they would become nuns as her father threatened her when she refused to marry her father's pick.
@shimanopetermann9068
@shimanopetermann9068 Жыл бұрын
@@angelabby2379That's not quite right. Her father was indeed the Holy Roman Emperor. Her mother - Maria Theresia - was ruler of Austria and the other habsburg lands but she wasnt reigning Empress, only Empress consort. One mustn't confuse the habsburg lands with the HRE. They were only part of it. And the imperial crown wasn't hereditary in the habsburg family. It was granted through election. It just so happened that it was usually habsburgs when were elected as emperors. Of course, Maria Theresa was the true power behind her husband because the habsburg lands were so powerful, but officially it was Francis, who was elected by the prince-electors as Emperor, as women were barred from becoming Empresses regnant. That's why after Francis's death, Maria Theresia was styled dowager empress and her son became Emperor instead of Maria Theresia.

Yes, ppl suck for creating wars. The point though is still the fact, that no one cared about her opinion, she was basically sold off as a representative figure and nothing more. Would she defy, there would be a chance they would just shoot the dog to get her to cooperate. If she still wouldnt comply, then there might be international consequences. So there would be the death of your beloved dog and many, many innocent lives who have done nothing to create that war, babies and children included. She made a grown up, selfless decision here, so that her loved ones would be safe, thats what you do if you truly care for someone.

@@pumpkindiamond994 Then you are dumb as fuck. They took her dog because it was an Austrian dog. She is to marry and become part of France. Her ladies in waiting, most likely close friends, from the Austrian court. Ladies in waiting normally traveled everywhere with their mistress (Queen, Princess, in her case, an Archduchess of Austria). But the court of France did not permit anything foreign from the Princess that would be the future Dauphine, whether it was clothing, jewelry, or even the ladies in waiting. I think this was started by Louis XVI’s Grandmother, the Polish born Princess, then Queen of France, Marie Leszczyńska.

My guess is it's because in some ways, they considered her already to be the dauphine as soon as she crossed the border. (In theory, she wasn't the dauphine until she was married to the dauphin, just like she wasn't "madame" until she was married to him.) I think as the dauphine, she'd be referred to as "Madame la Dauphine".
