Toby, I watched this yesterday and came back to watch it again today. I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing content like this. Curie has always been a huge role model of mine and to see you explain her PhD (also that of Einstein and others) is like a present that you give the world every time you post. I would love to have the time and expertise to look through high impact theses and important scientists' academic history, but it is just not something that I can do. Please please please continue with this :D

I thoroughly enjoyed this! I have read Marie Curie’s biography and wish I had accomplished at least half as much as she did. There‘s a recent film about her starring Rosamund Pike, as well as an older one.

I remember when I was learning about elements at my small high school in the suburbs of Australia, I always thought of Polony (the luncheon meat) when I heard of Polonium. Now that I'm older, it's pretty obvious it was named after Poland. It turns out Polony is called Devon outside of Western Australia.

The desk that she worked at is still radio active to this day.Her husband died of cancer in all likelihood of radiation poisoning.They didn't understand the implications of handling radioactive material.Truly a great couple totally dedicated to there work.You remind me of her

6:45 If I remember correctly polonium was used in the Manhattan project. Also used in removing dust from vinyl records, photo negative strips, movie reels etc. Apparently you can make polonium from bismuth isotopes in a particle accelerator through transmutation.
