I was part of this tour. The enclosed press reel, strangely enough, was filmed about a year into our run - lots of cast changes by this time.

I suspect a lot of negativity about Marie Osmond’s performance is based solely on the fact that she is....Marie Osmond. The fact is that she’s fine.

Agreed---ditto for the Osmond "King and I" clips on this channel.

Marie is supporting her column of air that she sings with. Any trained vocalist knows this. Marie can do country, rock, pop, Italian Opera and musicals. She is a super vocal talent....!!!

Marie Osmond is a throwback. A celebrity that stands for morality and decency. Never wearing skimpy outfits, or using profane language. Plus, shes beautiful and sexy. I find women who dress with confidence, knowing they dont need to have their boobs bulging, or butt hanging out, very sexy. Her inner beauty magnifies her outer beauty. Not to mention, shes a loyal wife and mother and let's not forget that Osmond talent. The only drawback is that shes a mormon, which isn't much more than a mainstream cult. The Bible is crystal clear. There are *8* points where scripture tells us to not add to, or take away from the words/commands of God. Rev 22:18,19....Duet 4:2....Prov 30: 5, 6....Deut 12:32....Matt 22:29....Mark 7:13....Gen 3:1-4....Matt 24:24. That said, she is quite a woman and zi admire her greatly.

You gotta remember Mary Martin did it first. And it wasn't anywhere near a legit sound. However it was more a spoken kind of smokey, earthy sound but not belted "showstopper" style. She knew how to dial it back and make it sound classy. I love Marie hut this wasn't a fit for her. She couldn't match the sound we're looking for: Andrews or Martin.

Vocally not terrible but not great. She gets by on charm.

I am not opposed to belting, but when a musical has the connotation for head voice, especially since this is Rogers and Hammerstein, it should be obvious, don’t belt it. I hate hearing Maria (the role) belted. The singer’s chest voice is not bad, far from it, but ever since Carry Underwood sang it, I just feel as if peo[ple are trying to pick it up.

She’s rarely belting in this, though. There’s a difference between belting and just using chest voice. There are 2 different versions of the stage musical, pre- and post-Julie Andrews, and this production seems to be using the pre-Julie version. Some of Maria’s material is a little lower in this version (the title song, for example), hence why she’s using her chest voice more.
