A shame @@MarkandSandieInMotion as the new album (An hour Before it's Dark) is IMHO the best thing they have ever done. I do get the nostalgia element though and love the early material too.

I am a fan of both Fish and Hogarth. The singer does not always make the band. These guys have chemistry like none other. You people who want to pick one or the other are missing out. Your negative comments are definitely not going to make Steve Hogarth like you...you're only going to piss off the Fish supporters and stop them from ever wanting to give the new Marillion the chance that band deserves.

Great man. Misplaced Childhood & Clutching at Straws are masterpieces, but so are Season's End, Brave & Marbles. Ive seen them in concert with both singers and Rothery, Trewavas, Kelly & Mosley haven't changed. They write emotionally brilliant music. Hogarth & Fish are also amazing lyricists who both compliment the band. Anyone who disagrees hasnt really listened to his lyrics or the interviews where he talks about their meaning. He & Fish have more in common than most will perceive.

Pretty much agree with nearly all you say ...but no one writes better lyrics than the FISH ...S.H...IS GOOD AND THEY COULD NOT HAVE FOUND A BETTER REPLACEMENT..and brave is probably his best work ...but ..I love ocean cloud and never land ..very very much

@@BROTHER-52 Sadly Fish has lost his voice, a lot of his live performances he sounds dreadful. Hogarth's voice is 10 times more powerful. NOT that I am slagging Fish off. I am just pointing out that the voice of Fish is around 30-40% of what it was in the Sugar Mice day.

@@skyhawk747 I agree the power that we always got from FISH. Has gone from his voice..noticeable over the last few tours.. Probably why he gonna call it a day after this last album tours... But he still the man with a gift of words...no BETTER lyricist than the all singing, dancing FISH..

Who else writes words like ‘a wedding ring destined to be found in a cheap motel’, and sing it like he did? When Fish left, Marillion ended. You can convince yourself otherwise but I’m not buying it. The original band was a treasure and the lid is sealed shut. Some things are sacred and better left untouched.

WHEN HE SAYS AM GETTING OLD NOW ..AND I Can't DO IT LIKE I USED TO.. ALSO SAYS ABOUT DOING A PARACHUTE JUMP AT 62 ...BET HE NEVER THOUGHT THAT AT 60 .HE WOULD STILL HAVE THEM LONG FOLLOWING LOYAL FANS WAITING WITH ANXIETY FOR HIS FINAL ( double) STUDIO ALBUM......Ive followed you all the way Derek .will be a very sad ( but moving and happy) night when I watch you for the last time ...( that's if we get through this drama that's going on now) .. no better master storyteller ( lyricist) than you ..the man with the gift of words

The band was not in turmoil. Their manager was taking 20% and refused to give the guys in the band their requested input. Fish asked the band to choose between him and their manager. They chose their manager, who was later sacked and since his departure they are independent - just like Fish.

The interviewer looks like he could be John Deacon from Queens brother. My first album I ever bought with my own money was Jazz. Otherwise I only got them for Christmas. A lot has changed since then! Lol! I am from the Grand Rapids Michigan area and Marillion were huge here because a local DJ from WLAV fm was a big fan and played them all the time and made sure they came our way when touring the States. Great times as I saw and loved both era's of the band.

A very interesting interview. I'm not sure that Marillion would have wanted Fish to do a solo album while still using the band, but what do I know... And I don't think the screenplay or novel Fish mentions ever came to anything, not yet anyway :-)

Fish was still in his late 20s here (or 30 at the oldest), and had already recorded 2 of the most amazing albums in the history of mankind (MC and CaS, of course). I'm 3 years older than he was here. What have I done with my life?

On a trip to his old local pub in Dalkeith, a fellow punter said to him "Well if it isn't Derek Dick! How are you?" to which he replied "Sorry pal, I only go by the name Fish now". The punter responded "Aye? Well to me, you'll always be a dick". Top class patter.

Fish sings well enough. His strengths were his lyricism, brooding physical presence, and showmanship. He doesn’t have the same vocal chops of Hogarth, but fronted Marillion brilliantly in its early days.
