Except he only wrote the lyrics. And I'd argue that Hogarth is as good or even better. Season's End is the best album they ever made and the lyrics are stunning. Holloway Girl. Easter. Seasons End. The Uninvited Guest. I rest my case.

I have seen Marillion Twice back in 85 . Knowing Script for a Jesters Tear and Fugazi by Heart , it was hillarious to see the shocked Faces of (mostly) Girls who actually came for Kayleigh and Lavender witnessing the Greatness of Songs like Garden Party, Assassing or Chelsea Monday ! What a great poet. I agree wholeheartedly with those who proclaim that Marillion is not the same without Fish; while they've done some good albums in his wake (e.g. Brave), the heart and soul that was, in the Big Scotsman's own words, "a Marillion marker," went out of the band after Clutching. As with Floyd after Waters, the philosophy and poetry left in favor of "pleasant listening." Not too many remaining in today's musical marketplace who can hold sway over such passion, depth, scope, or cultural reference, to which Fish can lay claim. Long live the Jester...

The poets all went into hip hop but the different music made for a generation gap, which is bad for everybody. Makes music seem cyclical - like fashion - rather than a continuum - like art.

Became a fan myself at that show but Twas ‘85 and it was the Misplaced Childhood tour. …Easy on the claim they blew Rush out of the water- impossible feat, every musician recognizes this- and Rush went on for 30 more years TOGETHER, to write epic albums after this; too many to name. Yet, I grew very fond of Fish and his musical and literary approach and remain a fan. Great band. The world is definitely living in SNAFU at the moment, so naturally this song came to mind and here I am…

jeff bauer I saw Fish solo a couple of times in Cambridge and he was pretty good but nothing compared to the halcyon Marillion days. It's strange listening to this thinking, "my god, I was actually there that night" it's a little aural time machine that takes me back to being 19

its not a matter of understanding, simply i cannot overlook the whole picture. Marillion were epic and DID influence a lot of new bands at the time. plus I think you cannot compare the two simply beacuse of the global village and the massive expusere we have today. back then people didnt simply 'click' and downloading the album. touring and preforming meant more fans and recognition now its the other way round. fame comes first, then we can choose whether to like or not.

You are comparing apples with oranges, dear friend. Bieber is something for teenies and the dumb masses. Bieber is not worse than the teenie music in 1984 (full of crap, please check!). Today there is a lot of good music, but most of us stop being open for new stuff once we reached 30 and our life becomes full of other duties, hardly leaving time to care for strange, magic Neoprog. Marillion is the soundtrack of my lonesome teenage years and still touches me deep insight every time I hear it.
