On this day in 1976 {March 27th} Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. performed "I Hope We Get to Love in Time" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was in it's first week on Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #98, it remained on the chart for the next four weeks then fell off for eight weeks. It re-entered the Top 100 on June 20th at position #91, that would also be it's peak position on the chart and it remained at #91 for three weeks... The husband & wife duo had three more Top 100 records, "You Don't Have To Be A Star" {#1 for 1 week in 1977} "Your Love" {#15 in 1977}, and "Look What You've Done To My Heart" {#51 in 1977}... The couple will celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in four months on July 26th {2018}...

My favorite of all their records. Deserved far more airplay in mainstream radio who was too busy playing crap like “ Afternoon Delight”, “ Let ‘em In “,,Devil Woman, “Rock in Me “, “ Howzat”, Who’d She Coo “. ….Billy Davis held is own in vocals with his wife Marilyn McCoo.

Em 1976, comprei o LP da novela "Os Apóstolos de Judas", da Rede Tupi de televisão, e continha essa faixa, do lado B a 4ª música. Me apaixonei logo de cara por essa melodiosa canção. Ela embalou muitos romances meus. Maravilhosa!

this was alot better than you dont have to be a star. dont know why it didnt chart and disappeared without a trace. It always amazes me when artists material that really sound good dont become a hit but the so so does. Rather strange. but prime example here. excellent performance by both and one of their best even beating out some songs they sang with the fifth dimension.
@MsTexas7313 жыл бұрын
@shmuli9 My favorite of their ballads is "My Reason to Be Is You" from their second album...but this song, along with the others you mentioned and "Nothing Can Stop Me" and "Never Gonna Let you Go" are my favs on the first album. I just wish "Got to Be a Happy Ending" had been included on this album. It is FIYAH! And IMO should have been an A side single instead of the Bside to this song.

So no one knew why I was laughing while I slow danced on the side riser to this song. Looks like my partner and I were wrestling a gun away from each other. (RT: Personalized blue tee shirt and a pony tail) They often got to close to that little poorly made railing and I was playing the game of survival. Often they wanted to feature me slow dancing on Soul Train and I seldom like it. So I hummed "I Hope The Dance Is Over In Time." LOL Peace, Keedah The O.G.

@karykares Billy and Marilyn always say when considering a serious relationship, make the person your FRIEND first...and get to know who they are...if you don't even LIKE who that person is or how they treat other people, ...then you don't need to get in any relationship with them...let alone a marriage. Billy and Marilyn always say that they are each other's BEST friend, as well as everything. 1 sec ago
