I had the privilege of meeting Marilyn McCoo in the 70s when she was with the 5th Dimension. She was wonderful! She was very kind to everyone around her and spoke to me for a few minutes. Very gracious and stunning. I have watched her sing duets with just about everyone from her era…flawlessly. She could literally sing with a refrigerator and make the frig sound like a star!!! I hope she is doing well and is enjoying her life!

Thank you to whomever downloaded this for the rest of us to enjoy. To the eight people who voted thumbs down, whats the matter? Can't stand to see a white man and black female sing together. They were two of the most talented singers/songwriters of my generation. Rest in peace ricky with your patents your brother dave,dusty springfield,whitney houston and way too many to list. Ricky died in an airplane accident just like john denver. Micheline Kribs.Rolla,MO

No matter who sings this song -- and there have been many great, famous singers who have -- it is the song itself that has the most value. It is a beautiful melody and great lyrics. Have loved it since Brook Benton sang it in the early 60's.

Why does everybody rate who did what better than who? Be thankful these images are still around to remind us of what we had back then. I really believe there is a place where Rick, Elvis, Roy, Marvin, Lennon, Harrison are all sitting around and making music you can't even imagine. At least I hope so, I want to see all of 'em again.

The crash was on New Year's Eve in 1985 and rock and roll lost another legend that night, Just a shame in so many ways, Now Rick, David, Ozzie and Harriet are gone but they have left us with lasting and joyful memories of a simpler and happier time in this world and when television was REALLY worth watching, Just so sad that those innocent days of tv shows are gone forever and we are left with so much garbage on-air that has forced me to NOT watch much tv anymore.

My band and I did a Rapid City South Dakota show that New Years eve and needless to say,I was heartbroken, and dedicated my show to Ricks memory! I still perform Ricks tunes at 60 years old today and get great responses to them! In 1986, January, the Challenger tragedy occured while in Canada,so that was a double whammy for me! I love and miss em ALL!

As I did with the death of Cobain, I deeply lamented the death of Ricky Nelson and the way it took place. I wish we had seen more of this type coupling in my day.
@imperialfreek11 жыл бұрын
An intereting contrast, in that Rick's vocals were always concise, and he rarely deviated from his own concept of how the melody should go(not neccessarily a bad thing) whereby MArilyn did more improvisation and melismas...NEverthless, it worked out well...the difference between the 2 was good, I really enjoyed this...

Thanks for sharing your interesting thoughts. I was born in 1953 and do not remember the Ozzie and Harriet radio show but I DO cherish their television show that I watched weekly. I especially loved the end of the shows with Rick singing songs and the girls screaming. This was at a time when television WAS worth watching compared to the garbage today on-air that I do not watch. Just too bad that Rick left this world much too soon and his loss is especially devastating for his kids and his fans.

Ozzie and Harriet was my favorite radio program when I was a kid probably late 40s and early 50s. The best i remember they came on at about 8:00 pm on Friday nights. Davis and Rickey were about the same ages as my older brother and me and I liked that Rickey always sassed David. They were played by someone else when I listened on the radio as I suppose they were to young to perform live as most radio programs were then. We got a tv when I was about 12 or 13 and I always watched from then on.

I found an airdate of September 10th, 1983. I tend to go with this date, since Marilyn McCoo left the show in spring 1984. Also, during fall '83-spring '84, she hosted alone. She returned in fall 1986, after Rick had passed away.

From what I've read, by 1985 Rick had kicked his drug habit, and was in fact much healthier physically and mentally (which makes his untimely death at the end of that year even more tragic).

As much as I liked Rick Nelson, Elvis didn't steal anything from him. Rick looked as good, he just didn't flaunt it the way Elvis did. I mean in Elvis's way of dancing. Rick as I recall wanted to be like him because his girlfriend loved Elvis.

Check out "You Know What I Mean," from September '85 on Solid Gold, featuring his full band & the Jordanaires on here. I honestly say they're different appearances. He's got on different clothes, & in 1985 Rick was wearing those distinctive ties, instead of the open shirt with Marilyn. One last thing: to me, Rick looks much better & healthier doing "You Know What I Mean" from '85. With Marilyn in '83, he seems more tired if you observe his face.
