The only thing he was guilty of, in both marriages, was being emotionally distant. Neither Marilyn nor his first wife Dorothy ever accused Joe of being physically abusive, but emotionally distant.

Yes, the sculptor is Paolo Schmidlin. This was a tribute he did of Marilyn. There were no photos permitted of Marilyn in the coffin, per Joe, with organizing her funeral.

Their relationship came to a head the night Marilyn filmed the scene in The Seven Year Itch is where she stood over the grate and her dress was blown up. Obviously there were guys staring, and Joe was livid. He stormed off back to their apartment, and when Marilyn came home, there was a massive fight. A week later, she filed for divorce. It's true that Joe did hit her, but she knew that he loved her deeply, but couldn't see past his jealousy. Joe knew what the Kennedys did to her, and he knew that Peter Lawford, their brother in law, (who married their sister Pat Kennedy), betrayed Marilyn as well, and he banned a lot of Hollywood stars and execs from her funeral. For 20 years, once a week, Joe sent red roses to her crypt. Joe's son said, that before he died, Joe told him that he would soon 'get to see Marilyn again.'

If anything her acting coach, psychologists, third husband, and former business partner were the ones who exploited and abused her. Joe was the one she ran to for help. You may like to watch my video about the "Surgeon Story" to see what happened to Marilyn at the hand of her abusers. That image in the video is a sculpture of what Marilyn looked like (there were no photos) and he did not pick out the dress. Her sister did. And it was Emilio Pucci, her favorite brand.

That is an urban legend. JD did not beat MM. Back in the day, most women did not work outside of the home. JD had the money and he couldn't understand why MM would want to continue to work - especially in Hollywood that was full of users and abusers. MM was a career woman. JD wanted away from the spotlight. They were two very independent people. If MM ever really needed someone, she called Joe DiMaggio. They still always kept in touch after their divorce and they were seeing each before MM's untimely death.
