I gotta gave turn signals. My harley has self canceling signals and its awesome. Its a 10 street bob. The bike I grew up on is a 1978 KZ1000 ltd which I road from the age of 17 to 30. I used to hand signal and 9ne day a lady waved at me while signaling a right turn. Haha. I was like well shit no one knows what I'm doing, great. I was under the impression that hand signals were common knowledge amongst drivers.... AND I was wrong.

Honestly, it's a blessing that the belt snapped when it did. Imagine if it had snapped on him whilst out in the middle of nowhere on one of his adventures. At least now he has a nice new belt, which is one less thing for him to worry about. And obviously, it was never intentional. Shit happens. Glad no one was hurt, and well done for getting it sorted. :)

Since the roadkings have that fatal flaw of the garbage stock swingarm bushings, have you changed them yet or done the full upgrade? Trust me, you WILL feel the wiggle and it will high side you! These belts are so narrow nowadays... I have a 1981 Sturgis, the first model with belt drive. My belt is like 1-1/2 inch wide, much wider than the current ones and at a lot less power. My 81 does not have a stone catcher though, a stone in the belt would be the way to break it. I replaced my rear belt because of age, had to take the electric starter, primary, transmission and swingarm out...

I have 21 years and 140k Kim’s (about 85k miles) on my road king belt until it started to fail. The only adjustments needed were during tire swaps, bike is fairly stock . I’ve had many bikes with a chain, The constant tightening cleaning and oiling is a pain when all you want to do is ride. Chains are Way easier to change but that’s the trade off , you can either spend a few minutes every week maintaining your chain , or save that time up for the few hours to change the belt.

That decision is a doubled edged knife. Chains break too (especially ones with a master link) and I've seen them bind up and take out primary and transmission housings.
