I can't wait for you to build a Scanner. Your biologist side will thrive when you have a way to scan and learn about anything you want in the alien ocean. Some plants and animals will give you all sorts of things such as oxygen and drinkable water, while others are dangerous or poisonous to eat (which is why you couldn't grab the Rabbit Ray at 14:45 : it was highly poisonous). And for the first time ever playing a survival game, you're actually doing really well. I've seen people die dozens of times before figuring out how to sustain themselves. You only died once before learning how to eat, and that was at the fabricator in the middle of cooking lol. You're ahead of the curb for someone who is getting used to video game controls and mechanics. Keep in mind that to discover new biomes in survival you'll have to build things to get to them like submarines and personal habitat modules. It's fun and rewarding to go deeper and farther with what you build. I hope you keep playing in Survival since you're doing so well, but it's fine if you want to switch over to Creative mode and explore the ocean without any constraints Can't wait for Part 2!

I absolutely love this video for couple of reasons: 1)It shows just how conditioned gamers are to read games. Things like menu, inventory, management of different meters, clicking on everything to check what it does, the drive to stab anything we can... The moment when She picked up random lab equipement and got absolutely confused. I love that someone who is not too familiar with games is willing to hop into Subnautica of all games as their second game and film it. It's both brave and, well, very entertaining to watch. For many reasons. Also, she's getting a hang of playing very fast. It's soooo satysfying to watch. She went from "How to eat" to "I think I know what I'm doing" pretty fast. 2)The absolute amount of informations she's conveing while saying "I have nothing to say". For instance I didn't knew waves and coral are capable of bioluminescence. 3)Accidental comedy. On the one hand we are watching Marine Biologist. On the other hand someone forgot how to eat. Also... *REGINALD* I just found out this channel and well... I'll stay here for more

Wetsuit, its probably fine, assuming its over 5mm thick. Most venomous sea creatures have very short but strong injection methods, like the sea snakes fangs for example. They are optimised to punch through the scaly skin of fish, so need strength but not a great deal of length. Its also why they are so Venomous in the first place, hunters using venom in the ocean need to kill or immobilise their prey almost instantly, otherwise it will get away and likely be eaten by something else. Defensive venom is different, defensive venom is usually discharged through spines which tend to be longer, but they also tend to be visible in most cases. Nemacysts like those on Jellyfish for example will simply not get through a 5mm wetsuit.....

This is so wholesome watching someone experience this game for the first time. And at one point she said something along the lines of "this game is really hard for someone who doesn't play many games." And yeah, unfortunately that is a really big problem in the games industry. There's a concept called "game literacy," and it's the set of skills and familiarity with things like inventory systems, general survival mechanics, and even more basic things that people that grew up with games take for granted, but are very much not obvious for those that haven't. This may not have been the best game for a new (or even new-ish) player to play, but its so wonderful seeing someone come at it with completely fresh eyes.

It's very interesting to see your approach to this game as a non-gamer, and even more interesting to get the information you give as a marine biologist. Don't hesitate to slow down and take a breather, it can be a bit overwhelming! I recommend you read through the datapad entries. It might give you some tips to figure out the logic behind the game and it updates as you play and scan things (one of the things I really look forward to you building is the scanner, there is going to be so much more you can tell us about!) While you technically can go everywhere from the start, the game makes it harder for you if you don't have the right equipment, it's a way to slow the player down so we don't go faster than we can learn. The oxygen tank is the first example of that ; it allows you to go deeper. Other upgrades and tool will widen your field of options greatly! Most of all, I hope you have fun. I am very nostalgic of the first time I discovered the game, and I hope you get to enjoy just as much as I did!

Yup, we are actually. At least when it comes to very large organisms such as Leviathans. Now do not get me wrong, there are certainly plenty of small to medium size stuff down there we have not found, but stuff the size of a Reaper Leviathan tends to leave traces. Anything that feeds on plankton we would have seen by now, and very large predators leave their own traces that would have been found by now. Take this idea of a shark like Megeladon still being around somewhere... This is an animal that specialised (as far as we can tell) in hunting large Whales.... how many Whales have we found washed up on shore bitten in half? If it existed we would have found at least a few, even if most of the carcasses sank before they could be washed up *some* would have been. We knew of the existance of very large squid species for example before any of them were ever seen, because they left traces on other organisms that we found well before we ever saw them....

"Should I have studied the commands before?" The short answer is yes, if you have a different agenda for this video than just enjoying the game. The more complicated answer is that learning what you need to do to survive is part of the game experience, so studying up on things you don't learn for yourself by trial-and-error is kind of beside the point, unless you would enjoy playing the game more being forearmed with knowledge. Everybody approaches Subnautica differently, which is one of the great strengths of the game: it lets the player really be themselves.
