I joined the Navy in May of '69. It was the same then. If you don't pay attention to your contract you can be screwed. If you're promised a school and the follow on job, and you flunk out of the school, you still owe the time. If your school / job requires a clearance, and you can't get one or lose yours, you still owe the time. And it's not about everyone else, it's about you. How you perform makes the military a smooth skate or a shit sandwich. I think retention has a lot to do with who's at the top. How much confidence do people have in them. As for joining the military, would you put your life on the line for them? If you got in trouble would they bail you out (Benghazi, USS Pueblo, USS Liberty).

I’m confused, if you signed a 6 year contract and you try to get out before then. Well how can you be mad when they don’t let you get out if you still have time left on a contract?

How did it work out for those that refused to take the jab and were then discharged?

Hey when you say the contract length starts when you finish school, does that mean MOS or going to college on the GI? Positive you mean MOS but just want to be 100% sure

I wish they had held me rather than retiring me. I had a contract to Dec 24 but they cut it and retired me 31 dec 22. Sadly i couldn't fight it at all. It was politically driven and manpower driven. But your right, they should hold the line and allow service member to fill the obligation they made. I was totally prepared to uphold my end and was pretty disgruntled about being kicked to the curb.
