It’s a crying shame. Scour Sniper is one of the MCs signature MOS. Just keep on whittling away all the things that made the Corps unique and effective and then wonder about why they vote to get rid of us someday.

I got out in ‘22 from the Corps but still got some buddies that are still active in the recon world and was told they just don’t have the numbers for the classes anymore and recon leadership as a whole agreed not to make the classes “easier” to get more bodies in. @@Scott_Buchanan - You guys should do a bit of research on how the services have changed throughout our history since WW2. We have technologies today that limits putting more men and women behind enemy lines for reconnaissance and surveillance. Yes, there are shortcomings with drones and satellites, but there is a lot that goes into placing small teams deep into enemy territory, so the day was coming that a number of combat roles would be either phased out or reimagined in favor of technology. The battlefield dictates how we will fight and the lean on technology to limit putting troops in high risk operations a reality that everyone must accept. That is why our LRSU (Long Range Surveillance Units where I served in previously) have been disbanded. The world of technology put us out of business just like the Marine Scout Sniper. This is a normal process that the service branches go through every 20-50 yrs. Hell, even the Marines have given up their armored force and that now belongs to the Army. The Army is right now restructuring since we are done with the conflicts in Iraq and A-stan and going back to the division model. This happens during peacetime and right now the future threat is fighting a near peer, so we will see all types of change going on. I've been through it myself during my 20+ yr career.

So... for some reason in the marine corps everywhere i went we had to do land nav. They hit that shit hard af. Which makes total sense, if ur gps goes down u need to be able to complete the mission. @@emmanuelawosusi2365 its not that map reading isnt useful, its that orienteering (what land nav courses actually are) as in using a map and compass to navigate hasn't been done in actual combat for a while. They dont even provide the materials to do it in actual combat, where you would actually need it if your gps went down. So its a good skill to have if technology suddenly failed but even if technology did suddenly fail you still wouldn't be able to use it because they dont give you the items required. In fact my squad leader asked for one and they basically told him no and acted like he was a terror threat for even asking. They act like mgrs maps have the nuclear launch codes written on the back and isnt something you can print with Google earth.. It would be like qualifying with a slingshot 4 times a year told that its a required course and u arent fit to be an infantryman if u cant pass and then being issued a rifle and banned from having a slingshot and called an idiot if u ever ask about it.
