3:30 That's not a mind games or hyping up kind of thing. I don't know how it is in the US, but in Germany we take legal formalities pretty seriously. They are, in all likelyhood, legally required to ask that question so that they can transfer accountability for serious injury to the participants. If the participants affirm, they are now consciously participating in a test that might cause them serious injury "auf eigene Gefahr" (at one's own risk). Even people in university are asked if they feel physically and mentally fit to take an exam. Pretty sure that there's a general rule that you have to ask that question, otherwise people can claim that they weren't given a proper chance to succeed.
@XLightChanX4 жыл бұрын
at university they ask because if you get sick during the exam a doctor has to prove it just happened during the exam and you were fit before, so people don't "cheat" and see the exam, realize it's too hard and back out by faking being sick. maybe here they don't want to give a free second try too haha

On the other hand: We in germany are so used to this legally required question before any official exams, that it´s probably no longer working as a mindgame on us, or even be menacing, more like a "ok, here we go"-signal. It´s the signal that this situation from now on has official significance and legal ramifications, and you just waved all your excuses good bye.

Like you said, you play a mental war with yourself in these situations but you can get through almost anything if you have enough determination. That's one of the most important things I learned in the military
@GrrecM4 жыл бұрын
I think you are wrong about the comment to „mental games“ at 3:50. In my opinion it is more a legal thing as we also ask the exactly same questions to people for their final exam after their apprenticeship - just to make they cant take legal steps if they fail. If they don’t feel in the position to go for this, it does not count as a fail, but you will not participate this time of course.
@iceboy51464 жыл бұрын
Exactly that! In germany you get that asked even when you're about to do your driving license.
@momemory29964 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily wrong i would say as you can be sure that each apprentice had to sign written consent before. A verbal consent like that sure does not imply any legal binding

I was even asked in exams during my apprenticeship, if we were at good health and felt able to take that exam.

in Austria, long time ago, we had something similar just for sub officer training, 120km within 2 days and 3 days of combat exercise before that. it was called internally the psycho march. it is gone now for decades, but this was similar, not in every aspect, but in a lot of them. no sleep, task, marching with heavy equipment, etc. a few things your learned during this time: in a team you can walk and sleep at the same time, your body can take more than you have imagine, discipline, willpower and even in the worsed case, teamplay to the end. even i had to undergo this training 3 times, one time i failed because of sickness, one time because of injury and at the 3rd time, we all gave us a promise, all or none. That promise kept us going, from long training nights, over many different task, river crossing and marching back into the military installation with a song. well after this trip, i slept nearly 2 days without a break ;)

The question "are you mentally and physically capable and ready to do xyz" is actually pretty common in the Bundeswehr. I think there's a rule stating that you have to ask that before any major exercise. Not everybody does it that formal but you hear it every now and then.
@Cedrikkkk4 жыл бұрын
Since I hear this before all of my exams in university it has to be some sort of law here in Germany.
@jerome1lm4 жыл бұрын
It also prevents people to claim some kind of medical problem afterwards if they fail.
@luckys1evin4 жыл бұрын
@@Cedrikkkk I heard it now and then, but not always, in my time with the bundeswehr and throughout my university years. I always perceived it as some sort of common and polite reassurance that the soldiers and students feel well to do a certain task rather than a mandatory question. As far as i know it's just a subtle way to give everyone a last chance to solve minor issues or (in the worst case) withdraw without too much hassle before heading into the tasks ahead.

Then the KSK guys end in prison for braking the the law and constitution of Germany. There where in the past violations done by the BW in preparation and education curses for foreign country missions, mainly POW and torture. The BW will not show this, but from the reports there where very sadistic measure taken to inflict extreme pain to the participants. Maybe good preparation and hardening of the troops but for a nation of the 1st world threatening its own citizens, even if your a uniform you are still a citizen of said country, its unacceptable. The BW is doing what it has to do and thankfully unlike the US they are not required to tell everything to the media.

What was left out in this video is the moments of soldiers collapsing. This is not just about your strength of will. This is about weeding out the soldiers with inadequate genes. You have to have the will AND the right combination of physical attributes to make it through this kind of training. Plenty of them injure themselves, breaking bones, spraining ankles, necks, walking until they literally drop unconscious. Not everyBODY has the capacity to do this, literally. They want to see who has the racecar body. Your average Honda Civic hasn't got a prayer.
