Can you switch to active after 1 year or 2 of being in the reserves?
@ahead7634 жыл бұрын
My friend said you have to be 2 years in and they decide if you can or not switch. It’s apparently a hard process but I’m not really aware.
@matthewgillespie28353 жыл бұрын
Do you have to stay with the same unit for your entire stint? Are you allowed to move whenever you need to? I could go into the reserves now, and go to college for four years, but I might need to move elsewhere when I graduate. Is that possible?

My husband is thinking about joining the Marine Corps reserves. What are some of the benefits that come from being a reservist?
@referete14 жыл бұрын
Quick question, my son is 18 and is considering joining the Marines Reserve, 1- Are you elligible for the GI BILL?, 2- Can you switch to active duty? ( you answered that on the video) how long is your commitment? and 3- if you're already enrolled in college when you join, do you get help paying for college? thanks
@abrahamrodriguez61676 жыл бұрын
Do reservists get the same benefits as active duty guys in regards to the VA loan and the GI Bill? Or does a reservist get less money for college once they are out?

Hey! I have a question, If you join marine reserve and then later on if you want to switch to or go for active duty is it to hard to that? And do you have to go for boot camp again?

Hey Sheldon, how long did it take you to hit Cpl in the reserves? im going in as a bulk fueler very soon and would like some insight on how long its gunna take me to get out of LCpl
@SheldonLeeFit7 жыл бұрын
Hugo Palma I left for basic in Nov '12 and picked up Cpl April '15. Promotions depend on your MOS. Some MOS's pick up quicker than others. As a bulk fueler, you'll pick up relatively quickly due to low cutting scores.

Hello! I’m enlisted for the delayed entry program and qualified to be a reservist. I’m currently a college student who is looking to be independent one day, travel a lot, and become a video game designer of sorts. My question to you (or anyone in the comments) is are the educational, financial, health, etc. benefits legitimate? I was very confident that they are, but a friend of mine is telling me that they aren’t and joining them will do more bad than good for me. I’d like to have more opinions about it since I won’t be going to bootcamp until June and I have time to turn back.

Hi Sheldon, I really appreciate these videos! I am a civilian and recently made the decision to apply for OCS reserves. Is it true that getting into OCS reserve is easier than active OCS? Not saying that either are easy btw.

What do you think about doing 4 years active duty then 16 years reserve to retire?
@jclee69887 жыл бұрын
Your videos are very informative. Thank you. I received a booklet to be an officer, but I want to be a Reservist. After PMC or OCC, is TBS mandatory for all Marine officer-to-bes, regardless of reserve or active? I see that it's six-month course and I wanted to know how you did it in terms of balancing your life (i.e. did you have to quit your job because of this?)
@SheldonLeeFit7 жыл бұрын
Jay Lee yes, TBS is a mandatory basic course for all Marine officers regardless of MOS. I joined when I was 19 and I went the Enlisted route - my initial training lasted a total of 6 consecutive months and I had to put college on hold for a year to do this. I'm not sure how it would've work if I held an actual job, I think that varies from employer to employer. However, I do know that once you become a Reservist, it's against the law for an employer to fire an employee for their absence due to military/reserves obligations. Hope that helps, good luck!

That clears many things up. Thanks Sheldon!

Very helpful videos! I just was looking for some advice. So I just got engaged and I'm getting married next July. I also just got a awesome career that I love working at a concrete company. However I've always wanted to be a Marine and I was actually going to go active duty if I couldn't find a good career. Long story short life is pretty good right now but I still have this Marine thing bugging me to death and I keep going back and forth if I should join or not(active or reserves). Would the reserves be a good option? I would obviously be able to keep my job but at the same time have the title Marine. Any advice or thoughts are much appreciated!
@SheldonLeeFit7 жыл бұрын
Andy Kuipers I think the reserves is a great way to serve while still having your civilian career. I joined when I was 19 and it was the best decision I ever mad. Congrats on the engagement!

Why is it so hard to get out of lance corporal, I hear that many marines stay there for years!

Do you consider yourself a Marine? even though your reservist?? because I am a reservist as well and I feel most time I am not a marine due to not being full time..
@sergioesquivel31737 жыл бұрын
Johnny Ho why would you feel that way? I'm not a marine, but once a marine always a marine, right?
@johnnyboy26187 жыл бұрын
SNiP YT I agree as we do go through same training as active duty but I feel my life is still a civilian, don't get me wrong the Corps has helped me see things differently and more openly but since I'm not on base, in cammies, working 24/7 and less recognize by those that are active duty as a joke "weekend warrior"
@SheldonLeeFit7 жыл бұрын
Johnny Ho hey man, I can totally understand what you mean. Honestly, yes sometimes it's really easy to slip into a civilian mindset and stay there since we only wear the uniform once a month, but I think I can speak for many Marine Reservists when I say that being a reservist doesn't make us any less of a Marine. We all went through bootcamp, MCT, and mos school. Idk about you, but I'm fortunate that I'm at a great unit with hard-charging NCOs and leaders that when I'm at drill, the motivated, sharp devil dog in me comes out and I'm ready to get shit done. I can see how that might not be the case if you're at a unit that doesn't have that. This is a great topic for me to discuss in other videos so thanks for that. I'll talk about how being a reservist only helps me in being a better Marine because we have so much we can offer in terms of applicable civilian skills and experience.
@johnnyboy26187 жыл бұрын
Sheldon Lee thank you for your reply! I feel this way because I'm a pog 0111 and there are 4 of us that are reserves in the same unit but when we drill the office also has active duty Marines and limited space so it gets crowded and I can't even get access to computer login yet so I feel like I'm useless. I wish i was motor t or supply or comm but I don't wanna go out field ops lol. question, how hard is it to lat move? And switch to active from reserves??
@SheldonLeeFit7 жыл бұрын
Johnny Ho another great question I can address in future videos lol. LAT moves are possible only if there is a need or shortage of those MOS's. So basically you have to find an open billet for that MOS and your rank, and the unit needs the funding to send you to MOS school... which I'm sure you're already familiar with how that goes in the marines lol

One of my biggest issues keeping me from joining right now is the thing you kind of talked about losing muscle at bootcamp. I am really into fitness and plan on opening a gym and would like to join the Marines but I don't wan't to lose years of hard work in a few months of not lifting.
