Any of you that say this is gay or had to have footage of Marines in combat to make it look cool etc... You need to take the oath, go to boot camp, go to the school of music or straight to your field band and deploy to Iraq for combat duty! Then let's see what you think then. Wow...here we go with the "My MOS has more ribbons and I went to SOI"...everyone goes to SOI...you either go to Marine Combat Training Battalion or Infantry Training Battalion. News flash the Grunts do an outstanding job in combat and they fight like hell, but there are also other Marines who deploy and do very similar tasks. Bandsmen have been in direct combat in every war and usually augment infantry units/ground combat element. Everyone's service matters. They are MARINES.

I ship out to boot this coming April, and my MOS is in the 03 department. I'm damn proud of it. Tell you the truth, I'm nervous about boot, but you know what. I will remember why I'm in it, and the personal mission I intend to fulfill. I can. I will earn my title.

I'm a highschool student and was chosen to play with the marine band over the summer. I loved it! I play French horn so the only sucky part was that we pretty much only played marches. It was all expense paid and I wish I could do it again!!

@jr7rockets That's good that you have been thinking of joining. In order to make it, I suggest these things 1. You need to prepare a grade 4 or higher solo piece for your specific instrument, so practice, practice, practice. 2. Practice ALL the scales you know and learn some more. Learn harmonic and melodic minors, too. 3. Make sure you know how to sightread really well. 50% of the audition is sightreading.

@Musiclives209 Percussion auditions consist of drum set, mallets, and snare. Need to know most styles on set. All major or minor scales on mallets, as well as a prepared piece. Snare u need to know all your rudiments up to speed (Rolls at 120 bpm, Para-diddles 168 bpm, ect) and another prepared piece.

These guys ARE cool, combat footage or not! As a professional musician, I know how hard it is to be a musician- physically, mentally, and emotionally. I could never make it as a musician in the military. I can't even image. I am very proud to be the girlfriend of a Marine flautist. :)

@mr4641 MEOP marines are constantly learning MCMAP, marksmanship, CFT's, etc. Once you're a musician you have plenty of time to earn a degree, and prepare yourself so when this marine re-enlists he can make a temporary lateral move. Yeah he might not get respect if he joins a combat MOS as a POG, but it's been done, many times.

@mr4641 My District MEOP recruiter has combat ribbons, he was a sax player. Every marine is a rifleman. Yes they are put on fire watch, but I know several marines who temporarily transferred into infantry units.

I liked the 'fracks' at 0:46 and 1:02. If you play guitar/bass or oboe/bassoon, be prepared to clang some cymbals or beat a bass drum in all the parades and ceremonies you will do. By the way, if you clean up for your-damn-self, no one else has to do it. KILL!

@ acapone13... I know several Bandsman that are more decorated than most 'grunts', purple hearts, BS w/V etc... MOS has nothing to do with the war fighting ability of EVERY Marine. We are all brothers just the same.
