And honestly, this is something you might not want to miss if you plan to make a one hour long video analysis of the arc with a specific segment for Akainu. It would be like me reviewing a movie I didn't understand and trying to explain the characters and symbolisms. Bottomline: If 4 minutes long into a 1 hour video you're already wrong about a major character you're reviewing, it might make people not want to watch the other 56 minutes.

I haven’t gone through past arcs again and I certainly don’t claim to be the encyclopedia of OP, I have and will continue to miss details, that’s just how it goes. Once I’m caught up, I plan on reading through the manga, so my perspective will obviously be much different, but as of right now - I write these minutes after finishing the arc. Thats what's great about one piece in my opinion and what's great about people who just started getting into it and becoming part of the community. *it is not plot armor, it is strategy. They prolonged ace's execution to make whitebeard busy fighting all those marines and admirals until he exhausted and injured so that it could be easier to kill him there. If they killed ace before whitebeard even fighting, they would only make whitebeard went rage mode and could have destroyed marineford from afar with his devil fruit. because his goal is to save ace, having ace there on top of execution platform prevented whitebeard for being reckless on using his devil fruit. As well as the admirals. Shoot 2 birds with one stone. Simple logic*

Keep coping there was all warlords there and admirals there to take him down. They could’ve done it after he was stabbed and was weak. They could’ve done it once wb was is the vicinity because his teammate would’ve been collateral damage if he went loose. They’re were plenty of times they could’ve killed ace but they didn’t just cause. For some reason they needed random soldiers to do it when they could’ve done it themselves like when the platform was destroyed and new guards needed to come.

The whole point was to draw as many pirates as possible into the bay so they could raise the encircling walls and trap them in a death trap, then clean up the rest outside as they please later. Ace was the bait for that. If they just killed Ace there would be no reason to walk right into the marines trap. Whitebeard could have leveled the island and his crew/allies could have dealt with the survivors after. The only reason the marines plan didn’t work as intended was Little Oars Jr’s body was too heavy and the walls couldn’t fully close.

Akainu - Cold hearted but has the power of fire/volcano (warm) Aokiji - Warm hearted but has freezing (cold) power Kizaru - The fastest person that can travel at the speed of light but talks and acts super slow

So I think at the beginning of the arc the admirals were being lazy because of Sengokus plan. They wanted to wipe out all the pirates. If the admirals attacked at the beginning the pirates wouldn't have fallen into Sengokus plan with the Pacifistas. Some would have escaped, and it would have put the admirals in a less strategically safe position. Like in chess, sure the queen is strong, but if you launch it into the enemy lines at the start of the game you run the risk of losing it. So you want to wait till the right time. After the Pacifistas attack the admirals are more directly attacking If I recall correctly.

Agreed People seem to miss that there WAS a lot of strategy going on at marine ford. You just weren't given a generic scene of a guy with a toy set up of the battlefield narrating the tactics. The marines had the benefit of patiece. The whitebeard pirates did not. Yonko commanders while not admiral level can take on admirals with the right matchup. By letting the battle drag out, the white beard pirates slowly lose the abilty to pick their battles as they are in enemy territory. Hence why despite the matchup being unfavorable Jozu took on aokiji. On top of that whitebeards fruit is less effective further into an island because he needs to pull his punches or risk friendly fire. Had the admirals all attacked him at the shore it would have been a very different battle. The admirals might have still won. But facing down commanders able to pick their fights and a whitebeard who can go all out, it would have by no means been an easy fight.

yea even sakazuki yells at kizaru and kuzan that they left their positions without protecting the platform. its kinda formation made to weaken the enemy by making them fight with numbers nd when they reach the platform they have to fight with admirals again

to add to that: they were also the ones playing the defensive game, not the offensive. If they were to all just go out and fight right away, the Marines would have lost their final (and best) line of defense and would have been vulnerable to a quick ambush attack by the Whitebeard pirates. We can actually see this happen when both Kuzan and Borsalino left their posts to go fight the pirates and Jozu launched an attack on the execution plattform, which could only be stopped by Sakazuki melting the ice block. He then critisised his colleagues for abandoning their assigned posts too early, asking what they think would have happened had he too left to fight and not being able to melt the ice block right at that moment. We later see another instance of this where all 3 of them had left their posts and Marco launched an assault at the execution plattform, which had to be stopped by Garp - who was not supposed to be there in the first place, meaning they got pretty lucky with that. Garp would also then assume the defensive position that was abandoned by the 3 Admirals in the later stages of the war because of that exact problem. and yes, technically speaking Sengoku was there, but he wasnt there to fight the pirates, but as a tactician. If he had gotten lured into a battle, the Marines would have lost the man overseeing the battle and feeding them with crucial strategies and information they needed to win.

Also, since I've got your attention, I want to put forth a potential answer to the question of why the three Marine Admirals wouldn't be at the front of the conflict more. And I think that you can look to what happened to Little Oars Jr. for the answer. If any of the three, or even all three together, were to move to the front lines too early, or frequently, they'd have pretty much an entire army that's comparable to their own army focusing almost entirely on taking them down. So to me, it made sense for Sengoku to have them stay back and pick opportune moments to hit important targets or defend against particularly dangerous attacks. Because as overwhelmingly powerful as the three admirals are to the Straw Hats, they're still not so overpowered compared to the commanders of White Beard's forces that they can take them all openly like that. Edit: Also, Sengoku's fruit is another Mythical Zoan type, kinda like Marco's. Basically his is a mythical sub type variation of the same fruit Chopper ate. As for what he can do, the Mythical types seem to give you the powers of whatever creature or figure you become. So Marco gets incredible regeneration, flight and some level of fire manipulation. So it stands to reason the Sengoku will most likely have a bunch of abilities that Buddha did.

Part of the reason ace wasn't executed ahead of time was the show of force. Of course they coulda just killed him right out. But doing in their way showed that even white beard couldn't stop them they didn't have to just rush kill him (for the public) then for the plan it was bait for white beard had ace just been dead whitebeard woulda just trashed the place solo with his power. But needing a rescue bring in more pirates to capture and gives them time to play this battle chess game against whitebeard vs just him standing a mile away throwing quakes over and over

Ace and Whitebeard's death is precisely WHY Oda didn't kill off anyone till now: there was no point. Sure 'raising the stakes' and 'drama' but honestly would killing off Igaram or Conis' Dad really add anything of substance? Is making the ending of arcs more bitter worth it just for a temporary moment of sadness? Oda seems to not think so. if he's going to kill someone off, its going to MEAN something. it's going to matter. Their deaths must affect things beyond "show how strong the bad guy is" or "make you sad". Whitebeard dies to leave a hole in the hierarchy of the world and make a power vacuum. He's the World's Strongest Man, whose very presence kept everything in balance. What's going to happen now that he's gone? Hell, what's going to happen to Fishman Island without him to protect it? Ace meanwhile died to affect Luffy. It's a very real, permanent loss for him, even more than sabaody. Its the biggest loss he's faced in his life. What will happen to him? how will he recover? WILL he recover? and not to mention now he has a more concrete reasn to defy the Worl GOvernment, as their bullshit diectly MURDERED his brother, as well as Blackbeard. These two things are very much his ARCHENEMY now. Without them, he'd still have his brother. These deaths will have REPURCUSSIONS beyon this arc, and THAT'S why they're the first real non-backstory deaths in the story.

When I first watched One Piece, I already knew Ace was going to die. It was one of the few things that had been spoiled to me prior to watching the series. I knew the death was coming and it didn’t make me cry…. But Luffy’s response to the death Ace broke me. I legit cried when Luffy screamed for his brother and it hurt me inside so much, especially knowing he had lost everything this saga. And then my sister watched this totally blind. She had gushed to me about how much she loved Ace when she met him in Alabasta and I had to keep my mouth shut about what was going to happen for 3 months after that. And then she watched it… Let’s just say her wrath was destructive and my death was agonizing and keep it there.(Jk, but she was legit really mad at me for keeping it secret)

That is certainly a perspective I would accept it they weren't trying to censor the entire thing in the last act anyway. At that point - the narrative is already made up, going radio-silent is not a show of power by any measure. Imagine watching in Sabaody and seeing all the cameras on the navy home-turf go out - would you really think that they were the ones in control there? If anything, blasting him then and there would've portrayed the iron-fist of the navy far better - they stop at nothing to pursue what their view of justice is, no scheduled times, no drawn out procedure or anything - they just deliver justice because that is what has to be done. I understand your read on it, but personally, I don't agree with the idea that pushing up the schedule is a show of weakness.

​@@Koroto I don't think the fact that his execution was moved up was told to the public (I could be misremembering though), it was leaked to the allied pirates to make them rush, but not to the people watching from Sabaody. Sure, the World Government/Marines want to portray an iron fist to their enemies, but they also want to be seen as the good guys by the general public. From the flashes around the world that we saw, the public were already unsure if they could win or not, so instead they wanted to convince them this war is justified and that the Marines were fighting for honor, truth, and justice. Their victory will be their display of strength and they can just blame the pirates for taking out the transmissions. Though I do think that when Buggy was frozen and all the transmissions were finally cut, Sengoku should've just tried to smoosh Ace with his giant golden Buddah fist instead of waiting for another set of executioners.

If you're not already doing this, I would HIGHLY recommend switching to One Pace after you finish the Post Marineford Arc. The pacing in the anime becomes absolute dogsh*t and it will drain your enjoyment of the show, regardless of who you are. One Pace is a fan made edit of One Piece that basically removes all of the padding that gets added in the anime - long drawn out shots panning over the battlefield, 30 seconds of reaction shots whenever something happens, the 5+ minutes of recap at the start of every episode, and of course all the total filler episodes. It does keep in anime original stuff that actually adds to the story, so you don't have to worry about missing that. But it cuts down the run time of the series from here on out by about 40% and you miss literally nothing. Also, once you catch up to the current arc of the story, I would highly recommend reading along in the manga while watching the anime until you're totally caught up. The manga is consistently S tier quality, and the anime is suuuuuper hit or miss. It has a really great shift in art style but the pacing is abysmal at times, and the animation goes from movie level to cardboard cutouts depending on the episode and how much money they had that week. One Piece should really be a seasonal anime so that they can keep the quality where it needs to be, but its the one cash cow that Toei will keep milking for every drop it can.

Buggy has actual character development and growth , yes his appearance in marineford was mainly for comedy, but here is the thing , In impel down. I loved that buggy begin the series as the coward who try to preserve low status away from the grand-line and all of this , searching for treasures and simple pirates live , when impel down began , we saw the same buggy , the one who takes every single opportunity , who can abandon any companion , and still wants to get out of the complicated place and search for treasures , with a big dose of luck from Oda , he founds that people look to him as a great person , follows him while doing absolutely nothing , but he take the opportunity and hides behind them to get out of the prison , at the end of the arc , this events and follower filled his ego , he thought that all of this happened because he is really the person they talk about and worship , he looked high to himself and immediately thought that he can only go up from here beginning from killing whitebeard. in marineford, we see him trying to make propaganda for himself ,which will be useful after the war, but we see him doubt himself again when whitebeard dies, that he is just another noone , So the theme of subordinates filling the ego of their leader, or making him overestimate himself is a common theme in one piece and will be explained a lot more in the upcoming arcs , marineford arc was very deep , Oda won’t write anything in it without a reason

I think the way black beard takes on another fruit is what he says about his devil fruit. He says the yami yami no mi can create a black hole that sucks everything in. When he demonstrates this to ace, it drags ace towards him so he can grab him and nullify his devil fruit powers. It’s also shown that when a person dies that has a devil fruit, the devil fruit power, or “soul” goes into the nearest fruit of the same kind it originally was. That’s why his crew is carrying around a bunch of different fruit so when they steal powers the soul will go into one and they now have that fruit ready to be eaten. It’s probably how they steal absoloms powers for shirio. When black beard put the tarp over white beard and they killed him, the soul of his fruit probably went to go into another fruit, but instead using his devil fruit power, black beard sucked the soul into himself. That’s my theory on how he can have both. It’s not that he has multiple souls in one body or the Cerberus theory or whatever. It’s just his fruit draws in other fruits powers to nullify them, it drags in the soul of the power the same way

I always like that no one before this moment died. It made Ace's death feel much more shocking and like a surprise. If I knew from the very start One Piece is a show where characters die, left and right Ace's death wouldn't have hit so hard. In fact, often shows with a lot of deaths make me distance myself from the characters. "One death is a tragedy, 100 deaths are just a statistic" becomes real very fast. It makes the introduction of new characters more boring because you never know if you should invest feelings or just shrug them off to avoid getting hurt when they die just a few episodes later.
