This isn't a sea anchor it's a regular anchor, a sea anchor is like a big bag or parachute that drags in the water and is used as a brake or to keep a boat pointing into or away from the direction of the waves in heavy seas.

How is an anchor heaved up when it is hooked to some object on the sea bed?

It isn't hooked. An anchor bury itself into the seabed, if the ship moves and the anchor is on top of the seabed. To heave it up, the ship has to have the anchor chain perpendicular to the seabed (the anchor chain has to be vertical).

@@HalfWarrior No problem. If you want to know how the markings work, each white link to either side of the red link is a shot, the marking seen had 5 white links to either side, so 5 shots out. The red link is detachable and connects shots together, you generally don't get chain like that as one piece, lol. So the first connection away from the anchor has the red link and one white link either side, next connection has 2 white links and so on.

also, that doesn't mean that it was that deep. It was likely less than 40ft of water Anchors aren't what stop the boat from moving, they hold the chain down, the weight of the chain holds the boat in place, that is why there was so much out.

@@mattcullen6109 A sea anchor is like a drogue chute or parachute. It floats near the surface on a line so that drifting due to wind is reduced. By deploying it from the hawse hole at the bow, it will bring the ship into the wind, further reducing the wind cross section and letting the bow cut the waves with less rolling. It would typically be used in deep water where the anchor won't reach, the engine has failed or is not powerful enough to keep her headed into the wind. A lee shore adds to the drama.
