Try Dragon Ball Z: Legend of the Super Saiyan on Super Famicom. The high speed flight is basically useless because it makes you move faster, but ups the encounter rate to frequently get you in two or three fights before you successfully take one full step.

You also could've saved many hours of traveling after dying by going to The Convenient Store (The Building with the Big 'C') That's the Checkpoint. Its where you can return to when you die, as well as check your EXP to the next Level and get your Save Password.
