This game took over my life when it came out, i almost flunked out of university because i stopped studying to play it literally everywhere i went. i still play it on my original gba sp (that i modded with an ips screen). i can't play it on emulators because the temptation to save state every shot is too great lol

I played this quite a bit in college too. I remember buying it right before a long drive for spring break. One of my all time favorite games. I had a ton of hours into this and Mario Tennis Advance Tour.

jiffa...you're a stronger character than I...i'm a cheat by saving states too often on almost every game...I salute you...I also did the agb101 backlit LCD mod...the screen that i could hardly see when it was working...failed...it sat around collecting dust with other tech for years...till ordered a kit from AliExpress when i discovered them on KZbin channels...wasn't that difficult to upgrade was it...little strips of perspex with the kit made lining up much easier...I made one slight error..I got it level ok..but 2mm too much the right..and i stuck it down with that super sticky double sided foam they supplied...too late to move the panel...oops...it's ok...

I haven't thought about this game since I saw it in a Circuit City 20 years ago or so. (I'm old.) I recall being intrigued by the concept of a golf RPG, but I didn't pick it up back then. Probably because it's golf and other games were available with more explosions. That's one cool thing about old games you haven't played. It's not new, but it's new to ME, and that beats the heck out of most of these $70, corporate, focus group tested, modern games.

Hearing that audio stutter coming from your V10 was honestly a relief, I thought that this game was somehow giving my Bigzazzle a hard time 🤣 this was a lot of fun to play!

It only stutters with the GPSP core. Switch to MGBA and it should run fine. I had already loaded up the save game in this core, and I just needed it to record some segments for this video, so I was lazy and didn't bother tinkering :P

There used to be a free to play online golf game called Pangya. I was obsessed with that game, but the servers have long been shut down. I've been chasing that golf dragon ever since.

Loved this game when I was a kid! Blew my mind when I found out it was made by same team as Golden Sun another beloved series of mine. Really cool feature was you could transfer your custom stat character to the GameCube and play as them on toadstool tour!

Good review! I actually owned this one back in the day and it was a lot of fun! The combination of golf and RPG worked really well together. It kept me coming back to it. I actually never liked actual golf (outside of mini-golf), but the Mario Golf games hooked me all the way back with Mario Golf 64. I _highly_ recommend playing Toadstool Tours if you like this game. There are no RPG elements, but it has the Mario zaniness in spades from the start! It is an incredibly fun game if you give it a chance (even you don't like golf). You can also import your characters from Mario Golf Advance into Toadstool Tours as well.

Haven't even watched yet, just commenting how happy I am to see one of my favorite games ever being covered. Even better than Tennis, which was already crazy good. This game is pure gold, loved it when it came out, love it today. Home console dweebs had no idea what they were missing out without the RPG style story mode.

Oh. I got a this and a gameboy advance on Facebook marketplace. Still in a box. But also a strange attachment that when you plug in. You can swing the gameboy for some of the swings

I absolutely love this game. I was inspired to play retro handhelds earlier this year thanks to the overwhelming amount of hype the r36s got for it's price. I played through all of FFIX in a few sittings then felt a hollow hole where an rpg should be after I finished. As an avid golfer I played this and loved it. It scratches a lot of itches simultaneously and is a great one to pick up and play for short periods.

I've heard a lot of praise for golf games. Never tried one out. The number one was, maybe due to recency bias, always "Golf Story". I think I give Mario Golf Advance Tour a go. If I don't like it, I can at least say I've learned something. Thank you for the entertaining video. 😄

This game is half of my "Does this thing pass my GBA stress test" team. Whenever I get an emulator machine, Mario Golf and Top Gear Rally. If it doesn't run full speed, it's not worth my time. Still love it, despite its flaws.

Well, learn something new every day. I didn't know Camelot made Mario Golf on the GBA. Curious, since you seem like a man who receives many packages. Even if things are being delivered with 4px and not Canada Post, do you have stuff stuck at "Arrival to the destination airport?" Makes sense that Canadian customs is backed up till mid January 2025 now but I'm curious how it's affecting others around the country.

Eeeeek! I Loooooove advance tour, and toadstool tour is my favorite golf game of all time so I swoon at any mention of mario golf. I still have my physical copy of advance tour and make sure all my devices can play it too - to near sarcastic "doom on a pregnancy test" kind of levels. Great fun!

With each new release we're seeing increasingly refined handheld devices. As they get better and better, the less i feel I need to know about them. There's a lot more to to say about a fundamentally flawed design than a nearly perfect one. I feel we're in a situation now where we have end game devices in our preferred formats well within our reach. So we fifind ourselves back in square one, on the hunt for new, obscure, objectively worse games to experience for the first time. Thanks for the thoughtful review.

Hey buddy. You can't swap the buttons in the OS, but you can swap them for your games. You need to open the retroarch menu (I believe it's menu+select on Onion OS, or maybe just the menu button on stock and go to 'native menu'). It should say 'quick menu' at the top. Then go to Controls>Port1 Controls, and you can set a/b/x/y to be any function you want. When you're done back out to the controls menu, go to Manage Remap Files, and select Save Core Remap to set these as the default controls for this core/system. Hope this helps!

Great review! Mario golf on GBA (and GBC) are classics, very fun, but on GBA there are two much superior golf games (in my opinion), I don't know... Mario golf is nice but I've always been disappointed by the fact that on a rather high-performance machine like the GBA they couldn't give us a ''real'' 3D golf game and in the shots we have the classic bird's eye view like on older systems (in fact I think that even Wonder classic for Wonderswan color is a better game), but let's move on to the two games that in my opinion are the best on GBA (and I have all original and complete). 1) Dan Doh!! Tobase Shouri no Smile Shot: Game taken from the anime of the same name, it has a graphics engine similar to a mode 7 for SNES with beautiful colors and nice and well-made animations, everything is very smooth and even the gameplay is well-made and fun, seeing it run on a real GBA is a marvel! As if that wasn't enough, the music is spot on and the characters' voices are the same as the anime series. (the "sequel" DAN DOH XI is also very nice, but the colors are a little less bright and the anime-style cutscenes and voices are missing). 2) Kurohige No Golf Shiyouyo: This game has a real fully polygonal graphics engine with zoom and rotation of the entire course, the number of polygons is very low and without textures, the 3d has a reduced resolution and despite this the framerate is not smooth, but the characters are made in a delightful 2d and animated very well, also (personal taste) I love the graphics style of the first polygonal games like Starfox on SNES or Virtua fighter or Virtua racing and in a golf game the framerate is not as important as in a driving game or other genres, so if you can get over this limit it remains a very colorful game with really well done mechanics and a good variety of courses, for me the best golf game for GBA and the game I spent the most hours on this console, also it is one of the pieces of my collection that I am most proud of since it is very rare and usually very expensive. (curiosity: not many people know that this is the true and only sequel of the two ''Tee off"" for Dreamcast, in fact the menus, characters and music are exactly the same!) Mario golf is a great game but if you exclude the RPG component as a golf game it is nothing special. I hope I have introduced you to some hidden gems (⁠｡⁠•̀⁠ᴗ⁠-⁠)⁠✧

Miss the rpg elements of the gbc and gba versions of Tennis and Golf. So much better than the modern games. Golf is fun, but always preferred the Mario Tennis games more, so many hours sunk into the GBC version.

i didn't like this sequel's plot. i mean, they delete waluigi with a golf club in the first act, and then you play as toad for most of the game. and i'm not paying another 60 bucks for yet another re-release just to see how they remodeled wario's cap this time

I played it a little..last year i think..didn't get far into the game..maybe half a round of 9 holes..at best..i probably found it a bit more challenging than other cartoony games..not sure now but that's the impression i get.. I'll give it another try..

Oh man, I love this game. I've got a copy of it and a GBA around here somewhere. I should really dust it off and play a round. I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't put this on the online service yet. We've got the N64 and game boy color versions on there, as well as both Golden Sun games on GBA which is made by the same game company so I'm hoping it's only a matter of time. FYI if you like this game, the one on game boy color is very similar and almost as good. Also, if you like pick up and play Golf with some RPG thrown in there "Golf Story" is pretty good and kind of inspired by these games but I think I still prefer the game boy color/advance originals. On the other hand, if you like the way these games play and like the idea of equipment changing your shot, but don't care much about the story elements, some of the Hotshots Golf games scratch that itch as well. Anyway, I don't usually comment much but I am subscribed and enjoy your videos. Cool stuff! Have a good one man :).

I really enjoyed this when I played through last year. You quickly get used to the visuals and there is sensible progression. Maybe a bit too easy, but if you're going to spend 30 minutes playing a round of golf, I don't want it to be too hard! Liked the game back in the day but I didn't like the music. I felt I was playing golf in Golden Sun. I don't like that they still used the same sound effects up to the Switch Mario Golf game. I also was shocked to learn a few years ago that they re-used the same courses they used in the GBC game. I liked the GBC version way more.
