Scott Flake levels based on areas like this go against Mario's style, also this isn't creative....it's a subway themed race track, in a normal Mario platformer this would just be one of the many underground levels except with a train gimmick.

***** This probably isn't a shining example of what I mean. The Mushroom Kingdom always feels so unpopulated in the 2D games. Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a city themed world in the next 2D Mario game and there were just Toads and Yoshis going about their day in it? This could be a cool level in that world. Plus, Mario Kart 8 has some incredible world building which I wish other Mario games had.

Scott Flake That would be a waste of resources to use models for nothing other than background detail...unless they made it so there were towns where you could talk to them, it really doesn't add anything. All Mario Spin-off games have World building that the Main games don't have, the main games don't need World building because world building doesn't add to games that don't focus on story. A city themed level would be pretty cool for Mario, as long as they can make elements of the city work as obstacles. That is what is important (looks awkward)

The yellow bar thing that runs along side the tracks is actually the third rail, which supplies electricity to run the trains. Don't worry though, you won't get zapped when you touch them!

0:30 if you look at the map of the city it looks like the John’s Alizée in Paris except it in the center of the city, If you noticed the city underneath Nintendo 64 Rainbow Rd. You would know that in the center of that city is a Mario themed Eiffel Tower So Super Bell subway takes place underneath the city underneath rainbow Road

Samzapp Ceebee I don't think it's really possible. I've looked at the map of the subway and compared the stops to some of the flights from Sunshine Airport and they're a bit contradictory.For example Sunshine Airport is one of the stops on the subway and it connects directly to Shy Guy Falls, but a flight takes two hours, whereas the furthest stop from Sunshine Airport seems to be DK Jungle, but a flight would only take one hour.

Nintendo is making Mario's world really cohesive with this one. - Toad's Turnpike, Toad Harbor, Super Bell Subway and N64 Rainbow Road are all linked to the same city (seemingly called Toad City), with Super Bell Subway even containing a map of the city - 2014-2015 appears to be the date in-universe too, as several ads show - Several locations are linked to one another by Sunshine Airport, several are also linked by Super Bell Subway - Everything is more "mature", with structures looking detailed if not realistic, tracks having a more "technological" approach than usual, the background of Rainbow Road showing Mario's planet to be Earth, the soundtrack being closer to a Big Band or rock style than before, etc. It's just interesting to see them putting so much into the game. It could almost be the setting for an open-world game, even. I wonder if they are planning to push the next main Mario title in that direction (or at least something close to Sunshine).

These tracks in Mario Kart 8 are so detailed and it makes them feel as if they were all connected. Something that I don't recall being in most Mario Karts, or games for that matter. They should make a Mario game that is like SM64 with a map that is as detailed and connected as these tracks.

If you go past the fun flower shop and turn right you will see there a path that goes off track that is blocked by the fence. Plus, there is the same sign that points to the exit where the road transportation such as taxis and buses is located, bathrooms, tickets and the 6 & 4 terminals along with that map of the city above the station

Those drinks in the vending machines all look like actual drinks you'd see in a vending machine in Japan. On the top row of the left one you got 2 green teas 2 of some other tea variety, and some sort of energy drink that resembles Pocari Sweat. Mid row left has what looks like more energy drinks and some milk coffee to the right. Bottom row has various coffee varieties. Right vending machine has what looks like Pocari on the top left, a water bottle and a green tea bottle right next to it, some more tea on the bottom left, and a bunch of coffee stocking the rest of the machine. Makes me thirsty just looking at it.
