Technically, Sam won round three. Yes, they both got the placements they wanted in the final race, but Sam got 2nd place, and Troy got 3rd. Sam getting 2nd place while Troy got 3rd means he got all three top 3 placements first.

I think getting 12th and 1st early would be best. If you got 12th, then you can't be trolled into not getting 12th by the other player staying behind. And if you get 1st early, you don't need to beat the other player to get 1st (or if you're worst, you don't need to beat the better player to get 1st if he decides to troll you).
