Here’s my take on it: I’ve heard that you need to be at a certain percentage of your speed (this is probably due to there being three engine classes) to start a drift. With this speed modifier, by the time you’ve reached that speed, you’re almost always going way too fast. So that makes Automatic not helpful for drifting. But at least you won’t lose speed while turning, right? Well, here’s the thing with Automatic: you can’t hop. Hopping for things like lowtricks isn’t very useful at this speed, but it can help position yourself. You can also argue that the speed loss you get from turning while on Manual is actually helpful since you’re going so fast. I hope I helped answer your question!
