Mario Kart Wii - Item Rain Cheat Code!

The most hazardous kind of rainstorm Mario Kart has ever seen. Can you survive the onslaught on your quest to win the race?
This is, as the name implies, a cheat code for Mario Kart Wii that spawns items at random in the air, where they then fall to the track like oversized raindrops, and create a maze of chaos and confusion on the track. This amount of activity, needless to say, can lag the game pretty badly, but it's super fun to mess around with :P
So, I'm currently out in America with very limited access to my usual dev tools, and was feeling kinda bored, wanting to do some modding on MKWii but with no idea what I could actually do from here. So, I went back to messing around with the item system like the good old days! ...Kind of. Anyways, 3 days of poking around later and I came up with this. Back in the day, I always wanted a stable code to be able to drop items at will (the best known codes are not very good and prone to crashing everyone), but now I definitely got what I wanted... and a whole lot more :P My days of doing item cheats online are over, but that doesn't mean there isn't some fun still to be had!
Speaking of online, the code does work online! Though the effect is the best if everyone is using it (the code assumes everyone will have it and adjusts your rain output accordingly). If anyone feels like doing a science experiment, remember that using this kind of code on Wiimmfi can and will get you banned if you run it in a Worldwide/Regional VS or Battle. If you want to try it, go to a friend room or a region that permits cheating. (Of course, you can do anything you like offline with no problems).
This code works by spawning a random item somewhere close to player 1's current location, 3000 units higher, 30 times per second. So while it may look like it's raining everywhere, it's mostly just near you. The relative location is worked out by a combination of RNG and your current speed on the x and z axis. This means that if you use the code in multiplayer, anyone who's not close to player 1 will notice it stops raining.
The probability of each item falling is as follows:
Green Shell: 18.75%
Red Shell: 18.75%
Banana: 18.75%
Fake Item: 12.5%
Bomb: 12.5%
Mushroom: 9.375%
Star: 9.375%

Improvements that I'd like to make to this code include better regulation of the items, so things despawn less often, lag reduction especially in the 2 player modes and adding new behaviour to all items so that they can all sit on the floor and be obtained (e.g. bullets raining down).

NTSC-U and NTSC-J ports have been released! The PAL code is also updated. It now works online, to best effect if all players run the code! And it now aims at everyone, not just P1, but can be altered very easily to only aim at P1 again. New link is in the description!

Unlikely. You can still play in friend rooms if you learn how to launch a Wiimmfi patched ISO alongside a gecko code. Good luck with that though, it's not the easiest to set up

+piggeywig2000 you can use codes on Wiimmfi via Gecko OS/Ocarina/Riivolution. There's a code that lets you connect to Wiimmfi. Just set your Wii's DNS to Wiimmfi's DNS and voila.

Well I did it through USB loader, which is a pain to set up. I've heard about using Riivolution for it as well, but I didn't know about that at the time. I also didn't know about Wiimmfi via gecko OS with DNS settings, thanks for letting me know about that

It can, it's just pretty unstable. If you want to try it online, you and a bunch of friends will need to learn how to launch a WIimmfi patched ISO alongside a gecko code. Do not play with this code in Worldwides or Regional, you will get banned. Friend rooms are fine though.

I am trying to get ctgp after uninstalling it mainly becuause i wanted the homebrew channel for the 20xx mod on SSBM but on the site it states extract the files to your sd card. it makes a folder whenever i extract it. do i just move the contents from within the file it creates onto the root of the card or do i leave it in the folder? also should i do something with the files from letter bomb and or the zip files from both ctgp and letterbomb? i got ctgp working completely fine without homebrew earlier but it started to screw me over after i unistalled everything and tried to reinstall. if you can get to this and respond thank you. i will get back if i can get it to work as well.

Mr. Bean I've gotta good idea how this cheat code could come in handy. First idea, would be to make it into a brand new gamemode on Wiimmfi were racers have to try and avoid the falling items (apart from the stars and mushrooms that would help them avoid the obstacles) and the racers have 5 balloons to try and keep for 3 laps of the race and if they lose all 5 of their balloons they are eliminated and they would have to go into spectating mode, it's a bit like an elimination game mode but trying to avoid items that fall down on the track. I know this would be a very hard concept (probably) but it's just an idea suggestion that came into my head about a brand new game mode using this cheat code on Mario Kart Wii CTGP.

This code is so fun to use on an emulator because you can safely remove the framerate limit if you have a good computer. This has added a whole new set of challenges in a rerun of all the Grand Prixs I'm doing with this code on.

Bean, I don´t know where to contact you so I do it here. I need your help. Was trying to change region some days ago, and it didn´t work. So I decided to go back to my original country. When i click the "return to wii menu to change your region setting" message, I get blue schreen and my wii wont load anything and I need to turn off/on the wii again. So I have now lost my flag in ww´s, something that is really annoying.

Please help me, so I jsut download CTGP revolution everything was good so far got it downloaded and when I go to launch game it says it needs more updates, so I go to update it and it says it’s “downloading” and it’s just froze on 3008/6587KB, the timer is going on the bottom right and it says please wait at the bottom left, I am new to the community I woudl appreciate some help. (changing something like "04" for a mushroom to "06" or "08". Can you give me a tip on where i can find the lines of code for this. I want to do all bob-ombs and I'm going to use the max item modifier and also change the blast effect/size radius and occasionally drop a star. I wish you would teach me about this code. The item probability is handled at the lines that read: 4E800421 2C031800 39400000 41800044 2C033000 39400001 41800038 2C034800 39400002 4180002C 2C035800 39400007 41A00020 2C036800 39400009 41A00014 2C037400 39400003 41A00008 39400004 Every 2C03 line is a check against a number between 0 and 7FFF (hex). Every 3940 line is the item to use. Immediately before this, the game has summoned a random number between 0 and 7FFF. Each 2C03 line is a check to see if the number is less than the value to the right of it (e.g. 2C031800 checks if the number is less than 1800). If it is, the 3940 instruction following that line selects the item. (39400001 = 0001 = Red shell). The 2C03 checks should always go up in numerical order (so lowest number first). Using that, you should be able to set the probabilities of all the items and set what items are spawned.

Hey bean, are you aware of the auto (and perma) 1st place glich on gcn luigi circuit? What you do is, at the very beginning, you drop off, and take a sharp left, so you go backwards, then once you hit the items, you are permanently in 1st place (and yes, multiple players can do it, and all get 1st).

I had an idea while eating supper, You know how you can transfer up to 5 miis to a wiimote where they are stored on the wiimote until you go and sync it to another wii on the mii channel? I wondered if one could take advantage of that and load executable code instead of a mii. Now I don’t know what the purpose could be or why someone would want to do it but I thought that it could open the doors to a possible wiimmfi disc patcher when you click on said mii. I have no intentions on exploring this theory because I don’t really know how but I thought it would be pretty cool. Btw I love your videos my guy!
