Ogni volta che guardo questo splendido duetto tra Lanza e la Greyson mi compiaccio per l'armonia delle voci e della scena così ben recitata da ambedue. The best duet between Lanza and Grayson. There's something erotic about Grayson writhing and singing while being held in Lanza's arms.
@h2ofyfe4 жыл бұрын
If by "erotic," you mean "rapey." Let the poor woman go. She doesn't want it.
@joep87874 жыл бұрын
@@h2ofyfe It's not rapey; the two characters in the opera do love each other. The character Lanza is playing is being a lot more ardent than the duet calls for, perhaps because his character loves the character Grayson is playing and wants to hold her in his arms a bit more than the operatic characters would. If you watched the movie to it's end, you would see that Grayson's character really loves Lanza's character, and the ending is romantic and funny. However, the operatic characters do not have a happy ending and that ending isn't shown.

Can someone explain this scene since I have never seen the movie? Why is he being so rough with her? It is uncomfortable to watch despite the singing!
@lemoncrinckles4 жыл бұрын
It's kind of a play within a play. The opera does not really have a violent scene like that.
@ruben14754 жыл бұрын
His roughness and her aversion are part of their "offstage" relationship in the rest of the movie. Grayson (Butterfly) and Lanza (Pinkerton) are singers in this movie and have been paired up to perform together. At first they have a mutual dislike for each other, which then turns into love, which then turns into a lover's quarrel. The lover's quarrel is what accounts for Grayson's unease and Lanza's roughness in this scene: if the movie had been dancing-themed instead this scene might have been a dance number where they insult each other through clenched teeth and fake smiles. But I agree that without context it makes the opera even more uncomfortable than it already is...
