He has been called the greatest since Caruso. He has also been called the first " rock star". Ronnie James Dio credits him for giving him a great example. Dio was raised in a home that played classical music all the time. Too bad Lanza died so young. He could of been even greater.

I don’t know who you are, but what you have created is something that is so beautiful, so special. I thought I was the last person on the planet that enthusiastically appreciated who & what Mario Lanza was. But, you have created what I would have done if I knew how. Mario Lanza is the greatest tenor voice of all time. No one can compare, not Caruso or Pavarotti or any one in between. Not only that but his acting was wonderful & what many don’t seem to realize is that he got his wish to be an opera singer through his movies. And, he then went far beyond opera by singing so many non-operatic, but beautiful, wonderful songs that will never die. He did more than he was expected of. I don’t know what actually happened that caused his death, I only wish I could’ve have somehow been in his company of friends & associates to prevent his death. This music lives on because of people like you. God bless!

What a delightful scene... even without Mario Lanza‘s glorious singing it would be highly enjoyable to watch - because of ML‘s and KG‘s mimics and the expressions on the faces of the different onlookers... Kathryn certainly didn‘t have the caliber of a great opera singer, but she had a sweet voice and was very lovely. As for Lanza... he probably was the stormiest and most exciting Pinkerton ever with an incredibly intense performance, matching the splendour of his one-in-a-million voice... ⭐️💖⭐️💖⭐️ Thank you for sharing this memorable duet and scene! 🙏🍀

Except he died in his 40's from extreme dieting. With a huge talent he also had a huge appetite....but ever wanting to be the matinee idol in the limelight....he paid a heavy price. So I would have to say, dear Jan, that Mario only appeared to have it all.

Lanza got the whole package, the natural voice, the look and the acting, except his voice and technique was never fully developed or trained as a opera tenor due to the Hollywood distraction or commitment. He so desired to continue voice training and asked it be written into his Hollywood contract. But he never did once he got to Hollywood. So he would not be among the best operatic tenors of all time at all. And btw, "Mario", in operatic world, always reserved to the great MDM.
