Mario Party Superstars - Minigames, Boards & Character Predictions

Mario Party Superstars was announced during Nintendo's E3 presentation a few days ago. While we have been shown a meaty amount of gameplay and information about the game, there is still a lot more to uncover, such as the final 2 boards, the remaining playable characters, and the remaining 38 minigames, all of which I attempt to predict in this video.
(sorry for not uploading for a couple months, but I will try to get back to uploading more frequently from now on)

I think the character roster is pretty good, I'd only change Boo with Dry Bones bc boo spaces are back so I doubt they'll add him bc of this. Also for the boards I'd like Chilly Waters, because we haven't had a Snow/Winter themed board in Mario Party in soooo long

Also, I think Bowser Jr will be replacing the Koopa Kids in the boards and minigames so I doubt he would return as a playable character. Should swap him out for Shy Guy.

Fun run is good but pretty easy to navigate once you know where the traps are. Dungeon duos definitely a good one though. And any elimination type style ones

I don’t think Bowser Jr will be playable. If you look at the archery mini game from Mario Party 2 (?) you can see that they changed Koopa Kid to Bowser Jr.

That really explains why there are no MP8 minigames revealed in the trailer due to most minigames in MP8 require motion controls. Although, it is possible for a few returning MP8 minigames with the controls being reworked for button controls.

I got my money on Mario’s Rainbow Castle and Waluigi’s Island to be the remaining two. As for potential board DLC, I’d go with each game in the Hudson Soft era: - Goomba’s Greedy Gala - Toy Dream - Faire Square - Pagoda Peak - Koopa’s Tycoon Town - Toadette’s Music Room Also, I’m fairly positive the remaining mini games will either be from the GameCube or Wii era. Having too many 64 mini games would just be mind boggling to me.

For the final 2 boards, I hope it’s Deep Bloober Sea and either Yoshi’s Tropical Island or Western Land A bit odd that they didn’t say how many playable characters there would be, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m sure Daisy will be in it. Hopefully Dry Bones, Hammer Bro and Diddy Kong are playable. Unfortunately I doubt Bowser Jr will be playable because Bowser always has a minion helping him stir up trouble in the games, and since Koopa Kid seems to be a distant memory for Nintendo, Bowser Jr will probably take that role For the remaining minigames, I’d love to see Desert Dash, Dungeon Duos, The Great Deflate, Chain Chomp Fever, Paths of Peril, Hide and Go BOOM, Dinger Derby, Fish Sticks, Coin Cache, Panic Pinball, Mario Mechs, Same is Lame, Jump the Gun, Granite Getaway, Lava or Leave ‘Em, Slaparazzi and Sizzling Stakes

I agree with the character roster. Boards I agree with the choices. 62 minigames are confirmed so probably 5 or 6 from each Mario party would be good.

Nice video and great predictions! I would just swap Waluigi's island to Chilly Waters. Since we're only getting 5 boards I think having an Ice/Water theme board it would give the game more variety. As for the characters roster I think it will definitely be smaller and contain primarily main characters and less NPC types. Like Pauline and Daisy for sure. Keep in mind they also implemented in-game stickers with funny expresions. Said that, it would be nice to have Koopa, Monty Mole and Shy Guy as playable characters! :D

Mario - Literally in the name of the game, and has also been confirmed, he will definitely be playable. Luigi - Mario’s Brother, and also confirmed. Wario - Confirmed. Waluigi - Confirmed. Rosalina - Confirmed. Peach - Confirmed. Daisy - Not confirmed yet, but if Peach and Rosalina are playable, I think she will be playable too. She also often appears in Mario Party games. Pauline - I don’t think she will be in the game, as she has never been in Mario Party. But, there’s always a chance they’ll let a new character enter. Shy Guy - He’s only an NPC for Space Land and Shy Guy Says, so he might be playable. Monty Mole - I haven’t seen him in minigames, so he could be playable. Bowser - Not sure. He seems to be an NPC, but he’s normally in Mario Party games. Hammer Bro - Maybe. He’s an NPC in Hammer Drop, but that’s just 1 minigame. Still a chance he’ll be playable. Donkey Kong - Confirmed. Diddy Kong - If Donkey Kong is playable, I think Diddy Kong will be playable too. Funky Kong - Doesn’t regularly appear in Mario Party, I don’t think he’ll even be an NPC. Birdo - Confirmed. This is cool to see Birdo playable, as she was an NPC, and wasn’t playable in Super Mario Party. Boo - He’s often playable, but there are Boo spaces in Space Land, so maybe he’ll be playable. Pom Pom - Maybe. Dry Bones - If Koopa Troopa is playable, then maybe. Koopa Troopa - Might be an NPC for Peach’s Birthday Cake. Kamek - Often an NPC, I don’t think he will be playable. Spike - He’s often in minigames, so I don’t think he’ll be playable. Lakitu - Often an NPC, so probably not. Goomba - He’s an NPC in Peach’s Birthday Cake, probably not. Boom Boom - I don’t even know who Boom Boom is, can’t really predict this. Wiggler - Maybe, he doesn’t seem to an NPC in anything that’s confirmed so far. Flutter - Probably not, he was a Watermelon Walkabout/Megafruit Paradise NPC. King Bob-omb - Probably not, he usually isn’t playable. Dixie Kong - Usually isn’t playable.

I’d swap out Bowser Jr. with Dry Bones tbh, since he was seen as an NPC during the Archer-ival minigame (if you zoom into the footage in the trailer). As for Boo, I’d swap him off with someone else... maybe a crazy pick like the ones in Aces and Super Rush. Also, i’d make room for more Item Minigames from 2 and 3, since only keeping one would kinda be absurd

The minigames you got right were Bomb's Away, Dizzy Dancing, Shell Shocked, Speed Hockey, Bounce 'n' Trounce, Ice Rink Risk, Dungeon Duos, Paths of Peril, Dinger Derby, Later Skater, Night Light Fright, Snow Whirled and Burnstile. You also got Hot Rope Jump right but they used the Mario Party 2 version, not the Mario Party version.

Bowser jr and boo are both deconfirmed. The 1v3 mini game archer-rival had bowser jr as one of the targets, and boo is a character on the map. I actually don’t expect any Mario enemies to be playable due to this.

I agree on Daisy, Diddy Kong, and Pauline. Boo is already confirmed to have an NPC role, but if we can't have him playable, we should have Dry Bones instead. Bowser Jr. has replaced Koopa Kid in Archer-ival, so I'm not entirely sure if he'll be playable or not (I kinda hope he will be though). I'm 50/50 on Kamek and Spike, but I do believe those two are among the most likely of Bowser's minions to return. I don't think Pom Pom is returning, but it would be kinda cool if she did alongside Boom Boom. A couple newcomer ideas I have in mind, aside from Pauline, are Nabbit and Wiggler. Idk if it's time for either of them to join the party though. As for minigames, I can't predict them, but three minigames I like really, really want to return are Dinger Derby and Chimp Chase from Mario Party 5, and Funstacle Course from Mario Party 7. Most of the other minigames I want are from Mario Party 4, and there are just too many nostalgic ones for me to choose from, so a handful of minigames I'd like to see most are Avalanche!, Long Claw of the Law, Makin' Waves, Hide 'n' Go BOOM!, Blame It On the Crane, Cliffhangers, Dungeon Duos, Paths of Peril, and Balloon of Doom. I can't really predict boards either, because I never played any of the N64 Mario Party games.

I'm fairly certain Tread Carefully is a renamed version of Tightrope Treachery/Rainbow Run from Mario Party 1 & 2, given that the build the Treehouse played only showed minigames from the N64 games on the roulette and the name easily seems the most fitting for that minigame.

Mario Party Superstars could be one of the best games in the last decade lol. It's just a remake of the old games with revamped boards and mini games. Super Mario Party was amazing and has kept us going for years. They really should just redo all of the boards over 1-3 games and include the best 50% of mini games from all the series, and improve the resolution - that's all the need to do

For the characters I'd only change Boo for Dry bones since the Boo space is confirmed to return and I'd change Spike for either Shy guy or a brand new one we haven't seen before like they did with monty mole and Goomba in Super, probably someone like Boom boom, Wiggler or Luma. However there's one dream character that I'd love to see playable but will most likely never happen and it's Buzzy beetle.

Mario Party 8-10 might not have as many mini games because they're motion control heavy. And even though there are motion controls on the Switch, they are also making the game supported by all controllers.

There were a few mini games in 8 that didn’t have motion controls like Grabby Gridiron, Sick and Twisted, Lava or Leave Em and more. And some of the motion based mini games could be changed like Aim of the Game was in the Top 100

If I had to guess (though obviously I can't say for sure), Nintendo is largely brushing aside Mario Party 8 since a lot of its minigames relied heavily on motion controls, and that would be hard to implement in a game like this. In all honesty I don't even think it's really that huge of a loss, as outside of maybe 5-10 minigames most of the minigames in MP8 really aren't that great anyway.

Still, I'm definitely seeing some bias towards the N64 Mini-games when looking at the mini games we know are confirmed, which makes sense, but I wish we got exactly 10 from each game to balance everything out.

I don't think they'll add Snow Whirled from MP6 bc they said you can still use single joy con to play this game. Their wouldn't be enough buttons to do this mini game. It's a shame, I wish they'd drop the single joy con play ability bc it's making the game more limited on what mini games they can add... 😔

Boo and Bowser Jr. won't be playable because Boo appears as a board hazard and Bowser Jr. replaces Koopa Kid

Why there so many 4 player mini game, looks like there's hardly any 2v2 and 1v3 mini games. There also needs to be coin mini games too. I actually want to see Coin Block Bash (the one with the hammer) to comeback that one was actually kind of fun to play, just going around wacking players around. Oh yeah Grab bag is another one too. Surprise Cake Factory isn't on the list.
