Actually, the cuts, blisters, and lacerations were due to the N64's defective stick being made of plastic. The grooves would often rub against the players' palms and thumbs after frequent use and scrape some of the skin off. This is why every console that used an analog stick since the PlayStation released the Dual Analog controller (and later the DualShock) would use hard rubber instead.

Fun fact about spinning the joystick with your palm: there actually WAS a lawsuit. If you contacted Nintendo at the time when Mario Party was out they actually sent a pair of padded gloves to protect your hand.

I definitely feel like they've changed Slot Car Derby for Superstars. I remember my strat way back in MP1 was to just regularly tap the stick on the curves, and that avoided all spinouts because the game's like 'oh, you're not at max speed, okay then', but in Superstars that doesn't seem to work anymore. But I guess that's to be expected with remastering, really.

My method in the original was just to have a Rumble Pak in my controller, hold the stick all the way in whatever direction, and every time I felt a rumble I'd let go of the stick for just an instant, then immediately hold it all the way again.

OMG my childhood! So back when I was about 4, I was over at my older cousins’ house, and they were playing this Mario Party. While I never played, I just remembered watching them struggle and curse out Toad in Slot Car Derby while playing as Luigi. The music, the sounds, everything was extremely memorable even years later. I to this day have never seen Minigame Island, nor played the original Mario Party, but I immediately recognized the music, and seeing this video reminded me of a long lost memory.

I genuinely have 20 N64 remotes and they're all busted because of the joystick BS this game had. I think I got to Toad before being unable to continue due to running out of controllers. The last time I played Mario Party 1 was way back in 2007 on an emulator. Soon after trying it, I was not into the rotation minigames. I got some "experience" in recent time through Mario Party Superstars; Yoshi's Tropical Island is one of my favorite boards, although Peach's Birthday Cake isn't shabby. There are also several remastered minigames. I fear that neither will prepare me for the _real_ test in Mario Party 1 itself. Whenever I can renew the Nintendo Switch Online, I'll step up to the challenge of playing the very first Mario Party. It will be my 101st Mario game. Entertaining stuff, Alpharad.

Mario Party 1 has the best Mushroom Mix-Up. I don't like the way in the newer one, people can push you, and it's all about jumping and ground pounding. I grew up with Mushroom Mix-Up being a game where you DON'T want to jump and ground pounding is basically killing yourself. I win by getting onto the mushroom as soon as possible without jumping, then standing in the way of everyone who jumps. Also yeah, winning Pipe Maze isn't luck, it's easy to win every time by just following it on the way up xD Whack-a-Plant is always amazing when you get it, free 36 coins and they're fun to get!
