Crossing Africa is a once in a lifetime solo expedition by Mario Rigby to trek across the entire African continent from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt by foot and paddle boat only.
This is a rigorous two year journey that will cover uncharted terrain while covering 12 countries and a diverse range of environments, including deserts, jungles, and areas of civil unrest.
Mario began his journey in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2015, walking up to 50 klms a day, while traveling through Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan and ending at his destination of Cairo, Egypt in February 2018.
Thanks for watching.
★★ WHY DO THIS? ★★
● To fulfill a burning drive for exploration and adventure and re-enforce my belief in humanity, all while testing my body and mind to the absolute limit.
● Inspire: The drive for curiosity and exploration is vanishing in today's fast-paced and digital world. I think unlike past generations, more people are hesitant to venture out and meet strangers. We are all filled with unimaginable potential -- perhaps my adventure inspired others to move away from their comfort zones and unleash theirs.
● Not only was it an exploration of the land, it’s also a genuine interest of the people within it, and to learn from them.
● Only a few have done it from Cape Town to Cairo, and they have been westerners. I wanted to take on a modern challenge and show Africa in a way that’s unique by walking side-by-side with Africans, staying where they stay.
● I wanted to explore the world in a unique way that allowed me to experience the villages, tribes, and cultures without the convenience of just leaving any place at any time. If you walk you can’t just leave at night and go somewhere else. You have to arrive and then befriend strangers within minutes.

I dropped my car off at repair the other day and got a lift back, but since it was only about 2-3 klms away I walked back to pick it up, I was buggered after that. I doubt I could have walked another 1-2 klms without collapsing, I am so out of shape.

Mario Rigby contacted me and asked if I would tell his story, which I had never heard of him or his journey of crossing Africa before. But once I started researching information for the video, I quickly realised that this was heavily covered in 2015-2018 by everyone. I must live under a rock as I never heard of him before he contacted me.

@Siward Beorn I often watch a lot of police / security camera videos, and a lot of videos come out of Africa and places like that of whole groups of men doing a home invasion. They follow your car home and wait to you open a HUGE ASS security gate and when you pull in they drive in behind you and attack you and take everything. Forget the health part of it (I am overweight and too old to do this now) I would still not want to do it, out of fear of being attacked / killed.

@Siward Beorn I am in the middle of improving, or to be more accurate at the start of improving. Now that all the cold weather is done for the year and we moving into Spring and soon summer, we will finally have some nice weather to get out and excercise in. I have already started dieting and excercising. I am currentlky 122kg and 50y/o so it is a challenge, but one I must do.

I just want to do it, I don’t care if the police 👮 is going to stop me or my family or friends and I don’t even want people to stop me and give me lift in a vehicle 🚗. I just want to walk all the way from Argentina 🇦🇷 to Alaska, it’s my ambition to do it, and I know god is going to help me do this.

I wish people would quit saying Europe is easy. While I would never compare it to what he did, in my 17 country journey in Europe I got a in a fight with Drug Dealers in Scandinavia during the "Nordic Wars" and was arrested at gun point in a then war Torn Croatia and stopped a possible Abduction of a Girl I had traveled with briefly while in Italy. Nevertheless it is the grandest Adventure I ever had overall and one that you should undertake and more. I will also quote some Danish Friends before I embarked on my journey "Overall it is safe, however people disapear all the time and you just do not hear about it" Since then I have only visited a few countries while back packing around the Philippines I would meet my other half. I was talked out of my dream to motorcycle the world literally the night before I was to leave do to family tragedy, while I ended up marrying that Filipina and having kids, I will always wonder what that trip would have been like, and can only dream of finishing it once my kids are raised, or perhaps as they get older we will do a grand adventure as well. Nevertheless the point is this, just go, he nailed it, the west is only worried about wealth, and the last thing you will think on your death bed, is that you wished you had made more money.
