Anselm filmed the trip by himself. His little compact camera became his companion, he kept setting it up to drive past it. To create special shots, he had to get creative and inventive. In addition to his tripod, trees, trucks and donkey carts were his helpers. Occasionally he also held the camera in hand to people on the street who enjoyed it as well. He charged the batteries with a USB charger which was fed by the hub dynamo. The documentary "Elsewhere. Alone in Africa" was made from the recordings and has been shown in over 300 German cinemas since December 13, 2018. Originally, to make a movie was never his plan.

Wow so amazing this guy got guts of steel. I can't understand how brave this guy is, or was he simply half-full. I learned a lot from this film. Africa has it's own pyramid. That is something new I learn. That is a shocking new knowledge to me. I want to do something like this so much but I am not brave enough. I have not found my bravery. one of the coolest documentaries i have ever seen... what a brave and motivated young man he is.. that is quite a journey he set out on .. each day bringing unseen new challenges and the always changing and sometimes quite dangerous situations he faced... and the time he spent alone pushing forward into the many vast and unknown places that were constantly presenting him with a kaleidoscope of changing (sometimes very dangerous) road conditions and climate changes.. just the everyday challenges he faced with each new and different environments would have sent most people over the edge and they would have quit and went home crying.. this mans epic journey is nothing short of remarkable in that he had only himself to look to many of times and find the inner strength and mindset needed to continue on and complete his goal .. it was a journey of many different challenges... it was mind blowing at times to witness the generosity of the people he came into contact with .. and the kindness they showed him is something that seems kind of rare anymore... he was a stranger to them and they always gave him some help if needed.. and maybe it was only a wave and or smile .. but those things are the ones that could keep one going at times.. all the different people he met along the way and the times they spent together although short are things and memories a person will carry with them and remember forever.. the kids were so cool... and how interested they were of him.. always smiling and laughing.. also i thought what a great job was done with and how this was filmed -edited and presented... just all around great film-work.

So Well Done!!! Fantastic photography! As a man who was born in Zimbabwe (Then Rhodesia 1966) and who rode his bike solo across 5000+ miles of the United States, This captured my heart and I journeyed with you with more than just interest in your story. I felt deeply your battle with your invisible enemy, the wind, and the risk of no place to go and still keep going while huge trucks pass you. The exhaustion at the end of the day that causes you to have to dig even deeper for the decision and action just to make yourself supper and put up your tent. The joy and the moments of risk meeting and knowing the people along the way. There is part of me that is already planning my trip at least up from maybe Durban Through Zimbabwe and into Zambia with a good number of days getting to know Victoria Falls again since my 7 year old self had core memories there. I"m just now realizing that I literally learned how to ride a two wheeled bike on the Rhodesian dirt and sand and rode and pulled our large tricycle around in the sands of the Kalahari. What kind of recentering could I too real-ize in my soul by taking time as a 58 year old (59 or 60 by the time I got there ;-) to put my self on bicycle wheels again in those lands?!? Looking Forward to finding anything you offered us about the rest of your journeys. Also, a very out of the ordinary side note. Thank you for preserving the innocent beauty of the "less clothed" women and girls. It may have been a KZbin imposed thing but I'm happy to see them protected to some degree from poorly motivated eyes, and it keeps your amazing story and wonderful story telling with full image video and simple honest audio, accessible and enjoyable for younger eyes. Thank You ... for going through all the creative trouble to capture and produce this experience for us to experience with you. Oh.... I also have to agree with another comment below! Lots of honor and admiration to your Dad for being the influence that He has been and for coming out to meet you and do your world with you. My Dad did the same thing when i was traveling and backpacking in the Western part of the United States after my bike trip out there and it marked my life deeply. You are amazing Anselm! It takes heart and courage for what you have done. Most people are looking for what you have found, true happiness being alone and one with your environment. You have set the bar high, I am hoping one day to go on a long journey like yours. God bless you!

I have to say this was the finest travel video I have ever seen. So intimate with yourself, the people, the land. Real, Real Real - I just loved it and got to see so much of Africa and her people. Generally, what an amazingly happy folk- thank you so much what a wonderful gift.

I have been on many expeditions and adventures in my life. But watching this extremely tough, hardcore, and extremely beautiful documentary, this is the best adventure / bike expedition documentary Ive ever seen. Thank you Anselm for making this video. You proved and displayed how tough the human body can endure. Outstanding job young man!! And thank you.

Absolutely an amazing journey in nits own right, but to also document it so beautifully has me in total wonderment. My daughters husband is Maasai and they lived with their two children in a roadless boma on the Maa sai Steppe so I have experienced this friendliness from people who have so little possessions, and so much humanity. This film brings that beauty all back and then some. Thank You Anslem

I got hooked couldn't stop watching till the end. This is _unglaublich,_ an epic adventure. In an arab country, especially Egypt, you never ever film the police, or members of the military forces or the customs, never film a govt building unless you were given explicit permission to do so. It is sad that you learned it the -hard- egyptian way, I hope you forgot the incident and enjoyed the rest of your epic journey.

I'm only 15 min in and totally hooked up! What an amazing journey, and I was really happy to see that Anselm got the moral support from his father, great strong family bonds 💪. Also, the background music starting from 13:47 reminds me of The Rise of the Dark Knight when the Batman 🦇 was trying to make it out of the well 😊

Congratulations on your amazing adventure! I realize it was several years ago now, but it's a glorious documentary and melding of culture, beauty, understanding and peace. I am a biker as well, but my adventures are more localized and I ride a Brompton folding bike, but your unbridled spirit of adventure is contagious. I have 2-sons, ages 37 and 39, and if they ever did something like this, I would, at once, be both worried and extremely proud of them-as I am sure your father is. This is the best biking filming I have ever watched. I feel privileged to have come across it...thank you!

Africa is full of humble and friendly people. True beauty. That neatly dressed guy on his bike on the dirt road 21:37 in Zambia waiting for vehicles to pass so that dust can settle 😂😂 he must be a teacher or pastor in the village. I can totally relate to that scenario in Kenyan rural areas.
