I honestly wonder if the clue "If it happened in SOMH64, then it was done with a DS stylus" was a typo and was supposed to say if it DIDN'T happen there. Going off that hypothetical, boiling it down to Rougeport and PokeFloats would mean that it would have to be done with a stylus, meaning Byleth couldn't have done it cause she doesn't own a DS. That leaves Koopa the Quick doing it with the stylus; "If it happened in Rogueport then Koopa the Quick did it" doesn't restrict Koopa from doing it at PokeFloats unfortunately. And that all sounds way too easy for a logic puzzle imo but it would at least leave much less ambiguity and guessing. It would honestly make so much sense if that's how it was supposed to be. As it stands now, there's like 7 possible, valid conclusions that can be made... Also fuck the candlestick. Literally never mentioned outside of the intro.

honestly, after trying to use what he found out for myself, i feel like it was simply an issue with simp missing something, and my best guess is that the body had a few hints linked to it. when the location is narrowed down to 2 options with one of those options being restricted, only about 3/4s of all weapon/suspect combinations eliminated, and no suspect relations as hints... there was enough missing that it was more than just guess and check, but enough information to greatly narrow down the list makes me think that there was enough to solve, he just missed something.

More than that, he seemed horribly disappointed. He wanted to have a good game of clue, and he did enjoy his time playing the hack and trying to narrow down the suspects, but it upset him that it was all ultimately fruitless because Graymon didn't provide enough hints to thoroughly narrow down the suspect. The fun mental challenge of figuring out the mystery was ruined by a sloppy execution in the end, and it really shows that this was greatly upsetting to Simple.
@justinfritz4817
@justinfritz4817 4 жыл бұрын
@@ertrick3693 It's unbelievable that someone could put a deduction puzzle in their game but not actually design it in a way that it could be solved. And it wasn't even an "oops, I didn't think this out all the way, so it could be one of two things" it was "these clues are almost random and don't narrow anything down". It's actually mind boggling, and shows a complete lack of understanding about what a deduction puzzle is. And then to be put through 2 hours of a promise of a payoff only to realize that the creator was too dumb to actually deliver on such a simple premise... I would be upset too. edit: Apparently, some clues were forgotten, a clue about the candlestick on the body was bugged and never showed up, and simple missed a couple subtle clues while playing - but none of those hints showed up in the final room, so it's just an egregious oversight in the design either way.

So, I did some analysis on the problem, and here's my conclusion: There's no way to solve this uniquely. Here's my description of the problem, laid out in formal logical notation, hint by hint; One of {Bowser, Byleth, ColMus, Graymon, Joe, Knuckles, Koopa, Mario, PSalad, SimpleFlips} must be true, but only one. This means that "Bowser → ! (Byleth ∨ ColMus ∨ Graymon ∨ Joe ∨ Knuckles ∨ Koopa ∨ Mario ∨ PSalad ∨ SimpleFlips))", etc. Same for {Bat, Brick, Candlestick, Crossbow, GraymonYTC, Gun, Katana, Stylus, Poison, Tripping} and {Bridge, Castle, Desert, Greenhouse, HMC, LiBoorary, MiddleSchool, PKFloats, Pumpkin, Rougeport}. Chronologically, the hints are as follows; (PSalad → Stylus) (Gun → (Koopa ∨ Joe)) (really, !((Koopa∧Gun)∨(Joe∧Gun))→!Gun, but this is equivalent) ! Tripping ! Bowser ∧ ! Castle (Byleth → ! (Stylus ∨ Bat ∨ Gun)) (Koopa → ! (Bat ∨ Gun)) (Bridge ∨ PKFloats ∨ MiddleSchool ∨ Rougeport) (! Byleth → ! (Crossbow ∨ Katana)) (MiddleSchool → Stylus) (Brick → Knuckles) (! PKFloats → ! Byleth) (Rougeport → Koopa) ! Knuckles ! Mario ! Joe (Poison → ColMus) ! Bridge ∧ ! MiddleSchool I put all this into a boolean satisfiability solver, and it found exactly 24 solutions; It could have been done on PKFloats, with the following; 1. Byleth and one of Candlestick, Crossbow, GraymonYTC, or Katana 2. Mustard and one of Bat, Candlestick, GraymonYTC, Stylus, Poison 3. Graymon and one of Bat, Candlestick, GraymonYTC, Stylus 4. Koopa and one of Bat, Candlestick, GraymonYTC 5. PsychoSalad and Stylus 6. SimpleFlips and one of Bat, Candlestick, GraymonYTC, or Stylus Alternatively, it could have been done in Rougeport, in which case there are three remaining options; Koopa doing it with either the Candlestick, GraymonYTC, or Stylus. Someone previously mentioned that the (MiddleSchool → Stylus) hint may have been a mistake and it should have been (! MiddleSchool → Stylus); This does change the number of solutions to 6; 5 on PKFloats and 1 in Rougeport. I would guess there was supposed to be a hint indicating that PokeFloats wasn't the location since it eliminates 87.5% of the remaining options. With that, assuming the MiddleSchool hint wasn't a mistake, there's got to be something vindicating the youtube channel (maybe it not making sense? Maybe Koopa couldn't have used it because it's not his channel?) and the candlestick; but it apparently was never mentioned.

@SNC_Zora
@SNC_Zora 4 жыл бұрын
It actually couldn't be GraymonYTC as the weapon. The very first bob-omb Simple talked to explained that Graymon was in jail and thus couldn't use his channel as a weapon, and that additionally no one else would ever use the channel as a weapon. 0:39 This alone eliminates 9 of the 24 options. Then at 17:04 Simpleflips's innocence is supposed to be judged by Twitch chat. While there was never any direct statement given at all about whether Simple was innocent or not, I think the sign was intended to declare Simple as innocent. I guess Simple had the same interpretation. This eliminates another 3 of the remaining 15 options. As for the other combinations, Graymon actually responded in a comment to this video about the Candlestick and Pokefloats (if you sort by new and scroll for a bit you can find it). Apparently there was supposed to be a sign that said Pokefloats was not an option for the location, but he forgot to include it. Had he included that, 10 of the remaining 12 options would be eliminated. It would now be a toss-up between whether or not Koopa used a Stylus or a Candlestick in Rogueport. Finally, I asked Graymon about the Candlestick, and he said that the dead bob-omb body at the beginning of the game was actually a sign, and gave away that it couldn't have been a Candlestick. He said it was a wall sign though, and that it was "annoying to talk to" as compared to a regular sign. After reading that, I checked the VOD of this stream, and apparently the fact that it was a wall sign made a big difference. At 1:13:13 in the video ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWXGqqVtnN-rg9k ), Simple attempts to inspect the dead body, but gives up quickly as he didn't get the text box to show up. Had we seen that text box, Candlestick would have been eliminated as an option, leaving only Koopa using a Stylus at Rogueport as the answer. Obviously Graymon messed up a bit here. Four essential clues all had some kind of problem that made solving the puzzle unnecessarily hard/impossible. Literally none of them appeared in the "hint" room, one of them was up to interpretation (Simpleflips), another was poorly programmed in (the dead bob-omb), and the other one was forgotten and not even in the game (Pokefloats). It sucks because I really enjoyed all the different levels that were offered, and I thought the premise was super cool, but slight mishaps caused massive issues at the end. A shame, considering I feel like this one could've had an easy Top 3 performance in the voting (imo).

I wonder where that sign with the pokefloats "hint" was supposed to be, because the only hints I recall in this video were via the Stars and the Bob-ombs in the starting area. If it was anywhere else I'd call BS and poor design.

I will say, this was not a flawed concept but had seriously flawed execution. And I’m not just talking about the ending. Sure the levels were cool, but it went VERY far away from Clue. I’m sure he could make one location with exactly the amount of clues you need to solve this. That would make it both solvable and more faithful to clue. It didn’t even need eleven stars. I’ve not played Clue and I can tell you, you don’t need to go to eleven places to even think about starting to eliminate things. Like I said, great idea, flawed execution.

I do agree though as someone who has played Clue, that without other players guessing to eliminate answers from, you would go to 6-9 locations unless you were lucky. That part itself wasn't far away from clue and it could've been shortened and areas made smaller. It also would've been nice to remove a lot of pointless info from clues and not sneak them into text.

Went out of my way to make a logic grid for it and being able to cross out the candlestick would have left koopa with only the DS Stylus, and crossing off poke floats would have eliminated byleth entirely, so long as we take the grammar of "if it didn't happen on pokefloats then byleth is innocent" to mean "Byleth can only be guilty on Pokefloats"

The statement about Driftveil Bridge and SMOH64 High School being 3 hours away was probably tied to the statement that one dude made about how it takes blood 1 hour to dry and turn crimson red. We never got a good look at the body but it probably would've said something about the blood still being wet.

First, most obvious problem: the hack keeps talking about who owns what. You don't have to own something in order to kill someone with it. Other than that, I"m too lazy to figure out whether the problem was that Simple didn't set up a series of matrices, like you're supposed to for this sort of puzzle, or that Greymon gave bad hints.

Easy way to fix the hack. Cut some of the suspects and weapons, just a couple. Change the hints to being, "It was not *Character*" or "It was not *weapon*" or "it did not happen in *location.*" Simplify things. And then hire a coder to write a script that randomizes the words so it's a different character, weapon, and location each time a new save is selected.

this is why in a lot of logic puzzles that are set up this way. you get like 10+ questions. even when theirs 5 or less people and things involved. now i will say many of these hints eliminate entire things like "joe wasnt real" drops a whole row on the logic table. but it just felt like half the info never was given.

A low rating for this is very fair. The goal of the game was to behave like Clue and it failed miserably. The technical aspects may have been mostly competent and perhaps even interesting at times, but if you cannot establish basic enough logic in your hints to lead people even close to the right answer, then this is not the game you should have made, nor the contest you should've entered for. All this to say that maybe the creator could thrive better in a different contest! Who knows!

going through again (i was watching the stream) i decided to follow along and see if simpleflips was just being an idiot. if you don't want to read all of the possible outcomes that fit the logic given, then tl;dr there was only one issue in the logic, if there was something that made pokefloats not the place of murder then everything would have properly fell into place. though simpleflips did simplify and slightly change some hints that made his come out way worse. Edit: i looked back and there's a second issue that the candlestick needs to be removed as well. the possible outcomes after parsing all of the hints (that i got) are as follows: koopa the quick, ds stylus, rougeport koopa the quick, candlestick, rougeport koopa the quick, ds stylus, pokefloats koopa the quick, candlestick, pokefloats byleth, candlestick, pokefloats byleth, crossbow, pokefloats byleth, katana, pokefloats colonel mustard, ds stylus, pokefloats colonel mustard, poison, pokefloats colonel mustard, candlestick, pokefloats colonel mustard, bat, pokefloats

I did the same, and this is what I think: I checked the location numbers and the highest found number was 12, which was greenhouse. If we suppose that there is exactly 12 locations, then we are missing number 1, 5, 7 and 9. Goomboss battle and Never Made Good Cave Never Will (HMC) didn't have a number, so we can suppose that they should be in the locations. In that case, there was still 2 locations in the game that were missed by Simple. Maybe one of them was Pokefloat? And maybe a pink bob-omb had an info on the candle stick? Also, in your outcomes, I think that you supposed that since Psycho Salad is a friend of Graymon, he didn't do it (I might have missed a clue for this info, but I couldn't get that specifically).

I would assume that because the candlestick was never mentioned, it wouldn’t have been a murder weapon. Also, how would anyone else have the password to log into Graymon’s YT. That would mean that it should be Koopa as the only option because he’s the one that would therefore not have one option left, the DS. tldr Graymon forgot that he put candlestick as a murder weapon.
