So creative! I never would have thought of this myself. I always wondered how you did it back when Char was in this enclosure. Thanks for sharing!

Those ledges look nice and neat. I like the idea of fixing them with batten. I have slate ledges stacked on rectangular patio cobbles as the slate I have is much thicker/heavier. A tip for the sharp edges, run a nail file/emery board over them leaves a nice smooth edge on the slate also works on wood and acrylic ( I ran out of sand paper one day and had to improvise lol )....

Would love more ideas for leopard geckos enclosures. Hoping you’ll have more Leo vids after the cold months. Would you say tungsten filaments are the best option for basking and heating an enclosure for an albino leo? Curious what you are using in your enclosure!

Where could I find a piece of slate like that?

I truly am starting to understand lighting full spectrum. But the halogen part (infared a-b) is a gray spot to me. How do i get the right amount of that? I know uvb, and led lighting but the halogen just doesn't make since to me. At the moment i have the halogen just heating and temp controlled, I did order new bulbs that are lower what so there will be no dimmer though.

Looks great, I expect it's a lot easier to keep clean than foam and all that jazz. I think might try this for my Russian Ratsnake enclosure I am building, Do you think some slightly larger batten would hold the weight well enough? They aren't too heavy, certainly well less than a kilo.
@JTBReptiles3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’ve made foam ledges for another setup and it was a TONNE of effort compared to this! If the ledges are to hold quite a bit of weight I’d want more of a “bracket” to hold the ledges up; you could try using corner braces attached to batten (long edge of batten perpendicular to vivarium wall) for this purpose.

Does anyone know where to get this slate? Where it’s natural slate but also thin and square/rectangular, or is it like slate tile?
@JTBReptiles2 жыл бұрын
It’s just roofing slate - the slate tiles you see on people’s houses. You should find it in most building supply outlets.

@@JTBReptiles Is there a concern with the amount of weight from the slate on the enclosure long term? I want to do this and I’m making a 6x2x3’ plywood enclosure. The largest (basking) piece by itself is 14.2lbs plus I wanted other small pieces as steps up to the basking spot, and my bearded dragon will add weight too when basking. Not sure if this will be too much weight, as I want the enclosure to last for 10+ years. Like maybe I should do a support from the bottom of the basking slate to the bottom of the enclosure or something? Really hoping I can get some input on this!

It looks like some broken shelf corner of the room with dust rust and old isolated room. .i am sorry please. ..to be honest what I felt I told you. .I might be wrong but I feel that the slates are better when you are going to add water falls ....here I think lots of greens mountain like rocks mud planes with dry leaves and required lighting will be much better. .With required temperature lights if you put a moon light with just little bit of night vision will be awesome. .When you watch the view from the distance of your room couch in the night it will be really awesome. .
