Here where im from in Western PA the coal company ran one of these, a W2000 Rapier and a 1300 BE as the big drags and had a slew of 7400 Marions, 4600 manitowoc and 2400 Lima drags too. Any given night in the 70s and 80s could see at least 5 or 6 jobs going simultaneously with the lighted booms swinging around. Too bad those days are long gone

I’m from the same area and miss those days. (Not so much the nights) Spent 45 years in those strip mines on all types of equipment, my favorite by far were the 2400’s . Most all of them went to Florida long ago, and the last operating one in my area was recently sold and went to South Vietnam. 🥲

Here in s Wales UK there was a Rapier 1800, at the time it was one of the biggest around and in a similar area was Marion not sure what size, all scrapped off now

It's been converted to an illegal Chinese grow house. That buzzing sound is from the HID grow lights inside . 😎

Always amazed that the enormous boom tapers down to relatively small pins that attach it to the house.

There You go again Justin tugging at my heartstrings. And though it is trivial, those rollers You pointed out do not swing the machine, but I know You Know that. And as far as “debris on the drag ropes”, good operators don’t do that. Always great stuff! Thank You Justin. 👍👍🇺🇸

Haha! I should have said guide the machine about the tub! 😁 I take it you must be a Marion fan 😃, they are my favorites ❤️ thanks

@@PAminingAll this stuff runs through my veins Justin, but the draglines were my favorite machines by far, all of them. The 2400 Lima’s have a special significance in my heart. Still remember being on the first one with My Grandfather in the early 60’s, which was a huge influence in my life choices. I miss that man.

I think Marion Shovel shut down in the late eighties. I went to Marion in Ohio about 2000. I saw the shutdown plant. I think it is terrible to see so many American plants shut down. Nobody seems to know how to correct the situation. American manufacturing is good for the country.
@andrewrees87493 күн бұрын
@joehovanec1985 Bucyrus bought them out I think and kept some of the designs
@PAmining2 күн бұрын
Notice they kept the best designs, like the tri structure. Marion did a way better job engineering their machines than BE

What a beast! I'm very curious on some of its own history, was it sent their new? purchased from another company? been there it's entire life? What are the plans with it? Looks way too nice to dismantle.
@robertestep70173 күн бұрын
Bought new in 1980 by Northern Strip Mining. NSM. Was here in Somerset County, Pa. it's entire life. Now in Florida as of around 2 years ago.
@boom-rl7me3 күн бұрын
@robertestep7017 at the beginning he said it was a 1985 model. What is it going to be doing in Florida? How many truck loads does it take to move something like this?
@robertestep70173 күн бұрын
@boom-rl7me It was erected in 1980 a few miles from my home. I worked for the company that owned it for 17 years. I don't know what is being used for in Florida, just glad it wasn't scrapped. PA Mining has a very good video of this dragline while it was in operation at Job 200.
@PAmining2 күн бұрын
Thats awesome. So it came from NSM. This state has always had such a close connection with UK coal. I may have got the date wrong but that's awesome info. Thanks!

It is in Florida now.

Hey! I traveled to see this very machine in 2018! I spotted it on google Earth. Draglines are virtually extinct in western PA these days. I think this one was disassembled and shipped to Florida. I took my future wife with me to see it. She'd never seen a dragline up close before. I think it definitely left an impression!

That's cool! Yes this one was relocated to Florida a few years ago. Still working!

Hello Justin.Didn’t Marion make 7820 without a mast.What was there bucket and boom size if it didn’t if it came without a mast.Thanks.
@PAmining2 күн бұрын
The very early models were built without a mast. I'm not sure what year Marion incorporated the trip structure, (probably in the 80) but it was on later units.

Man I wish you coulda got the 8050 I worked around in 02ish at starfire mine in hazard Ky. Big job. Had few 793s and p&h 2800 I believe it was…don’t think it was the big 4100 but still massive to a young first timer on a stripjob..horizon natural resources at that time.
@PAmining2 күн бұрын
I would have liked to see that 😃 I thinkt there was a couple 8050s in WV and KY? The big Marion drags were always my favorite.

With the transformer buzzing does that mean they never turned all the power off. Sounds like it has batteries and they never turn the main off.
