A MILLION THANK YOU'S, SIR!!! I have spent a week trying to get my Phantom up and running. Any and every different attempt to update using the SD card and reader failed. I find your page, hook the Phantom directly to the PC as instructed, run through your easy to follow instructions, and like magic everything works now!! I was so frustrated I was ready to give up, I was trying to figure out the best place to ship it off to and have it "repaired"! Just pure dumb luck I found your answer to all problems. Not sure if DJI is paying you for posting this, but if not they should be. If anyone from DJI reads this , GIVE THIS MAN A BIG RAISE!!!

Video still relevant today... watched a few others and this was first to get me squared away... also... when the 4 beep tone changes you will notice the little light that was flashing red and green alternately will have gone to just green when it's done. thanks for this video... i'm 57 and still feel like some of this technology is beyond me... Still can't set clock on micro-wave! lol... j/k

I bought my P3S from you last week - this firmware update looks far easier than the Standard version! I kept having issues updating mines, but found that it was purely because I was too close to my router etc. DJI Go app wouldn't connect to my IPhone 6 (Would either not see the wifi connection or simply would not connect!) After moving away from my computer/ router etc - it upgraded no problem! Interference is real, the cake is not a lie! Rossco PS - Those who are using a mac to update their Phantom Advance and Pro, need to use Disk Utility to format their SD card to MS-DOS (FAT) Hope this helps!

Totally agree with everyone. Your simplistic video is excellent. So many erros derive from using SD cards and their holders. Your video makes everything clearer to understand. If people realised how complicated these drones are, I don't think they would buy them. I certainly wouldn't have.

Thank you for showing me how to use the usb wire to update versus using an adapter and the micro card....it's much easier. But during your demonstration you never say to turn off the controller or drone.....but you then say to turn the unit back on, when you never said to turn it off. Now.....do I attach the controller into my ipad to check it for the app updates??

For the April 2016 Phantom 3 Advanced firmware update I tried your method which worked flawlessly with the quadcopter but not at all for the controller. After starting up the controller with my ipad mini 2 reconnected the DJI app prompted me for the firmware update which downloaded and completed successfully with the ipad.

For firmware updates on the controller from 1.4 onwards it updates through the app.

Important. I troubleshooted for about 2 hours because my android devices with DJI Go app didn't recognize the controller? I turned on USB debugging and tried numerous micro usb cables. I think the cables (4 of them) were just crap. I eventually found one that worked. Who would have thought USB cables would give this issue. Working now on both my mobile devices.

just updated with this video and everything went exactly as it should have, even took the same amount of time as yours did in the video, but when i took the sd card out of the remote and put it back in the computer to check the update there is no txt file... there was a txt file that said success when i did the drone first, but no txt file after updating the remote, but ti turned green after the blue and stopped beeping and did everything yours did?

My firmware updated on my P3A perfectly but it keeps saying the RC needs to be updated and to update firmware. I have tried as instructed but it will not update.

I was unable to update using a USB and did it by using the RC update method no problem.

The Pilot App was the older version. You now use the Go app.

i broke my phantom 3 pro. and i sent back to china for fixing and just arrived last night after 2 mos. of waiting. then lastnight i tried to fly but need upgrade this morning i tried to upgrade the remote control because that's what appear in the lcd but it doesn't work the upgrading what i do is i just link the RC to my remote and it works i dont know why i think this is only temporary but i did fly.

Hi Rick... very useful video but when I connected my brand new Professional to my PC using the white cable, although Windows 10 made the usual 'found a device' noise, nothing popped up on screen and I couldn't find the Phantom anywhere on my PC, which, after enjoying your tutorial and looking forward to doing my firmware update the non-SD card way, was a tad frustrating. I've now done it successfully using the SD card method but that seems so much more of a faff than yours. Any ideas why I couldn't locate the Phantom...? Many thanks...

I can't get my radio to recognize that I have the USB with the .bin file hooked into it OR that it's hooked to my Phantom 3 Pro... The radio just sits there and nothing changes. No lights doing anything, no noise.. Is there anything I can do to fix this? My Phantom updated just fine. Chris

From firmware 1.3 onwards the controller is updated through the app. If it doesn't say it needs one then the update is for craft only.

Do you not have to put the same firmware in all your batteries as well,i seen another video where this was done?. This is a much easyier way of doing it than using the sd card.

I tried to read through most of the comments to see if there was a solution but I couldn't find one. My brother gifted me his used P3P and I have tried to update the firmware as shown in your video but with no success. I downloaded the latest firmware to my macbook desk top and unzipped the file then plugged in the craft with the micro usb cable with the micro SD card inserted. I dragged the unzipped (or so i think) file to the root file of the SD card. I ejected the File from my macbook, unplugged the craft from the usb and restarted the craft. NOTHING HAPPENED. I plugged the craft back up to check for the text file and there is nothing there...please help what am I doing wrong. Ive watched about 100 videos and nothing seems to help

ok I figured out what I did wrong...I bought my p3p used and I had a advanced camera that I had from a project,installed it and finally decided to use the advanced firmware and it worked...so if you have a advanced camera on a pro you will need the advanced firmware. ..

Firmware Failure Message: Trying to update firmware [P3S_FW_V01.03.0020 ] on the unit that I received yesterday [8/19/15]. Front 2 LEDs - solid red Rear LEDs - blinking yellow [fast] LED on camera gimbal - no color - flashing or otherwise. Everything done by the book - video online & manual ... i.e. batteries charged fully, etc. Any Ideas or help would be great!

I have updated my PH3 Pro several times successfully since i bought it & I'm very experienced with UAV's, but right now all i get is Flashing yellow lights & 1 beep, or no beeps depending. Flies fine but i know if i fall behind too far i won't be able to update in the future. Tried brand new SD cards, tried doing it your way by plugging directly into gimbal. Is there a Master Re-set i can do before sending it back to DJI? I use this for work so can't really afford to be Phantomless!!! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

SkyCaptureAerialimaging There no hard reset on the Phantom 3 sadly. There is a reboot file for the controller but not the craft.

Ideally you want to be upto date but it doesn't have to be the first thing you do.

Once you are finished with the craft update just change the battery and it will update to. Only takes a few seconds.

It may need reconnected. Under the controller menus in the app there is a Link Rx button. Press this and then on the drone on the side there is a red flashing light and a button inside a hole. Push this to remind.

Check your SD card or USB stick as it’s not reading the Bin file. Also make sure the Bin file is not in a folder. It has to be on the root.

Ernesto Rodriguez If you have tried formatting the sd card and still no joy you can get a bin file that hard resets the controller. Contact DJI for the file.

Marionville Multirotors I have tried everything they said and reformatted the SD and it still won't work! They will not answer the phones due to high call volumes, so $1400 for the 3 Advanced and it won't get off the ground dammit!!! I'm NOT happy with DJI's customer service which amounts to NOTHING.

What brand of medication has this DJI narrator overdosed . He plugs in a data cable between the drone & computer USB port , downloads the DJI Phantom firmware to what appears to be a lap top computer. , then if I fallowing his procedure description correctly , then transfers the firmware download to the drone . I don't know what version of Windows he is using , but my desk top with Windows 10 in devices & drives doesn't show the drone as device E, when the cable is connected between the two devices , so nothing to transfer the update download too. Then latter on in his switching files back N forth narrative . he refers to format a SD card to clear whatever files might be already downloaded . OK what part of the update video did I miss where he was handling ,inserting , or downloading too a SD card. My take on this video was , the whole firmware update was downloaded to his laptop , then from the laptop via USB data cable , transferred to the drone . So I don't understand all the positive comments by individuals who supposed had success following the steps in Marionville Drones tutorial
