Marisa Galvany, in the eyes of many, was one of the greatest singers of the century. Few were her equal in regard to power, emotional involvement, and stage presence. She could sing just about anything--and did. She had a 3-octave range. Few singers could equal her ability to sing anything splendidly from Lucia to Turandot. To the best of my knowledge, her final public appearance was about 3 years ago in Carnegie Hall. I was fortunate to have been there. She remained fabulous.

I will never understand why this truly fabulous singer was given so little opportunity to make commercial recordings. Thank goodness for opera house pirates who preserved nearly SIXTY complete opera PERFORMANCES in which she starred. For the sale of posterity, I've transferred nearly all Galvany CD's to gold-based archival stock.

2:29-2:36. Perfect two octave drop turned into one resolute phrase. This is unbelievable singing. No wonder the audience lost its collective mind at the end.

She made her Met debut in 1979 in Norma

In my opinion she belongs to a long list of first rate singers who were over shadowed by names liek callas sills sutherland caballe and so forth because they were never with big name recording companies. not to say that those ladies dont deserve their fame cause they do, but there are so many diamonds in the rough out there.
