Mariss Jansons dirigiert die Wiener Philharmoniker - Bei den Salzburger Festspielen 2012

Das Programm enthält Richard Strauss' „Don Juan“ mit weiteren zentralen Werken der spätromantischen zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Mit der Schwedischen Starsopranistin Nina Stemme stand ihm für die tiefen Gefühlswelten der „Wesendonck-Lieder“ die ideale Solistin zur Seite.

2012 must have been one of the best years in the career of Maestro Jansons: conducting the New Year's Concert, then taking part in the Salzburg Festival (as he always did, except for this year!), to finish with the wonderful Beethoven cycle, recorded with the BRSO in Tokyo (Suntory Hall). Actually, the pleasure he found in conducting and his total commitment to music remained unchanged over the years, including this year, which was full of health issues, culminating with the tragic news we received on December 1st. Rest in peace, dearest Maestro, and THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC! You spoke the language of my heart and soul like no one else did (or will ever do!). You were one of a kind and whoever will replace you at the helm of the BRSO will have a most difficult task to fulfill: replacing the irreplaceable... What a wonderful concert. Mariss Jansons was a magnificent conducter. I know he is really being missed. What a loss for the classical music world. I'm so thankful for concerts like this. At least we can still enjoy his conducting and how he made classical music come alive.

And the great Jeremy Wilson in the trombones!!! Bravi, tutti! Beautiful and sensitive playing. Crowd loves it obviously! Brahms 1st Symphony is after the Wagner lieder. The Festspielhaus always seems to be a warm room with lots of sweaty folks... I know they sweat when the play but it just looks warm in there.
