You guys!! English has gotten so much smoother since the first video! Great job! The amount of details and dance etiquette. I love how relaxed you guys are when explaining etiquette. Makes me smile. Its not stiff, very fluid. Thank you for maintaining the way you deliver all those instructions! Love it!

Thanks Marius and Elena for taking the time to explain correct contact positions and from both perspectives This is something very often ignored/overlooked and yet it is important as you said to achieve that great connection!

Thank you. We are glad it helped. Definitely this are details not enough empahsized during class. We remember them every time we use the shadow connection. And still some students have difficulties with this. It's not enough to say it once and that's it. Instructors need to explain it again, and again, and go to the students and show them again and again. We are humans, the force of habit is strong. So an instructor must break that habit and create a new one :P Thank you for appreciating it.

@@MariusElenaBachata So true!! And definitely, repetition is key:-)

Wow I needed this. I knew the figure of how to get into the shadow position, but had no clue about how to lead once there. Can't wait to try again keeping in mind the 2 points of contact and also turning away 45 degrees. Also, that's a great combo at 4:44 ! Great inspiration!!

After watching the video and looking for connection on sacrum area I started to get feedback on socials that the connection they would expect goes to the left side on the hips of the follower. I guess, both options might work. But connection on the side seems to be more popular in Germany.
@MariusElenaBachata2 ай бұрын
Technically it's wrong to have the connection on the left side. It's simple bio mechanic. Can your elbow flex enough so that you have a parallel position of the forearm to your body, when you hold your follower? No? Then your connection is inneficient. Yes, you can dance in any position you like, but we teach it for maximum efficiency in leading and following. If you are positioned to the left, when you do chest isolations, or other moves she will feel only half of the body. When you are face to face, your right side is on her middle line, not to her right/your left... saying this directly, you are not nipple to nipple, you are nipple to middle the middle line of the ribcage (which is a natural position). Which is the same in the shadow position, your right pectoral muscle fill the space between the follower shoulderblades (also taking into consideration the hegiht, sometimes the right side of the ribcage fills that space if the follower is shorter). But the position of the right hand is really important, and can be achieved only in this position (which also allows the follower a correct position of the right hand) Also, staying fully parallel, or to the left side, impairs leading and following and that's also why a lot of the advanced moves are badly done and a reason for the : "You can't do that in social" :D. A lot of dancers don't care about this position because when they shoot videos, 90% of the time is coreographed, so ... it doesn't matter. But for social, it does :D Hope this long explanation helps.

Thanks for the awesome video! For the 2nd point of contact, I feel like I cant make it without touching the girl's butt with my thigh (especially when she stands up straight and tilt the pelvic back a bit). Is that accepted for this position?
@MariusElenaBachata Жыл бұрын
Depending on the move yes. It's normal for there to be slight contact. You can also just create a very good connection with the hands and the upper body. But in some moves (like waves) it is kind of inevitable.
