9:25 me mentioned holy shit ! this video has such amazing points. i feel like people have put so much emphasis in the debut scene that often vtubers forget to prop it up with meaningful content. my model was featured in a few videos and the comments in one of them were full of people saying "its a good design, but she needs to be able to back it up with her content and entertainment ability", and that's the kind of thinking i prefer. i feel like people should always be challenging and iterating on the medium rather than just throwing whatever they can at a wall and hoping it sticks. a lot of indies try to have debuts that make them feel like mini corpos, and while thats nice in the moment its like you said, whats next? my thoughts arent super organized or unique from your video because i agreed with you entirely, lol. its just nuts, some of my first experiences with vtubing was watching some of your older videos and to see myself in one of them is crazy surreal. thank you so much for your thoughts and good luck on your upcoming debut and rebranding!

I think it’s really important to show off what YOU like to do, especially if what you did before wasn’t just gaming. Like I love story telling and am working on videos about my own ocs, so if I make a lore video it’ll make sense why and would guide others to look my videos where I talk about storytelling! Selling yourself is all about making yourself interesting by using the things that you enjoy! You can’t just like.. post a song cover just because others do, especially if you don’t like singing! That’s what I’ve taken from vtuber debuts after consuming content for so long.

This is probably one of my favorite videos you've made recently. I find myself very drawn to "debut culture" just conceptually, but they're all so formulaic since they're based on the agency debuts as you said. V4Mirai had some of the most innovative in recent memory though. The part about maintaining relevancy is something I *definitely* would love a future video on, because my fear is over time, being too repetitive with the same type of content and not having anything "new and flashy", as you mentioned so many people also feel. Thank you for this!

I honestly agree with what you're saying. When i first started streaming, i didn't even have a debut cause i never really thought about it, mainly cause during that time i didn't know what a vtuber was. I just wanted some way to represent myself without having to show my face. The first time i was able to have a real debut, it was with my 2d model. It was the first time i was able to actually introduce myself to an audience as I never thought about it before from my start, but i feel like i also understand why there so important to people, at least as the starting point of being a vtuber.

I recently started streaming without a debut and I'm glad I did it! When I tried to become a VTuber when I was younger I would spent lots of time thinking about my debut, but not doing one is probably better for me (no streaming experience) in the long run. Also I wouldn't trust a 13 year old with OBS with my life LMAO

I was thinking about his a lot lately, with my model potentially being done within the next month. On one hand I was worried no one was going to show to my "debut" or "model review" stream. Another hand I was worried people would only show up for the debut, then leave after, making the whole thing kinda pointless. I dont have a lot of money to spend on it, and my artistic ability is kinda shoddy and my editing skills are servicable at best. I've put a lot of effort into building up a foundation of my stream, but never really thought about what its focus should be. I think I want to lean in on the lore bits. I like to write in my free time when im not busy, but im not sure if others would *like* the story i have in mind. I dont know, there's a lot to think about

Debut used to be super huge in the early days, because there were only a few dozen vTubers and the community as a whole would rally around the new vTuber on the scene. Today with thousands of new vTubers, you just can't pull that draw as a new vTuber, only either an existing vTuber with a new model that already has an audience or large corporate where they again, have an expanded community to pull viewers from. So I think new vTubers can have fun with a debut, but one today should never bank on it being the reason achieve success.

I want to see more unique debuts like V4Mirai's Gen 3. Having your own website is a great idea too, many popular VTubers already do (like you, Meowmoonified, Jessie Llum, etc.). That said, I'm also super old school with what I like in streamers, so I'd be happy with VTubers who just start streaming or making videos, I find most of them way after their debuts anyway... and what tells me the most about a VTuber is see their actual content and deciding if I like it, not their debut at all XD 100% on your take for model debuts being Marketing or Community Rewards, that's a great use for them.

tbh as an artist if i made someone a model like yes ofc make me findable but no part of your debut stream should feel like an advert for your artists, you being yourself and being a good entertainer for your audience *is* the advert, if someone is watching you and deciding they like your model and want simmilar they will go find the information, its very sweet and lovely that many vtubers want to support and shout out the people they've worked with to bring their character to life but simply using those assets and working towards your own success is plenty

sorry for commenting before watching all of it so this sentiment may be covered, just felt like sharing. I'm getting my first payed model finished this week and have 0 intention to debut. I think without the backing of a corp or an already established large fan base a debut is just putting the cart before the horse. you should ideally be aiming to establish what your brand is initially then later you can transition to debuting and such. I think Geega is a good example of this, as she was making content for a year before actually debuting and by the time she did she established herself as someone worth watching. When I get my new model I'm just going to stream/record like usual and just mess around with my new toggle/expressions for more content within the stream itself rather then make it the focus.
@LintelloBrume7 ай бұрын
I agree with the general idea that too much importance is placed on the debut itself. Debuts are big events to get eyes on them, but it is pointless if you don't already make entertaining content since everyone will fall off. I do have some differing takes though. For slides/Hololive-style debuts, I feel they were fine for their time, but I generally agree. They are lacking personality, and the rise of "Debut 2.0" is proof that it just doesn't work. However, I actually think artist credits can be valuable during debut, but only if you are working with a well known/respected artist. Who you know or who you can work with does say something about you and your network, and can act as social proof, especially if you are new. It probably shouldn't, but it absolutely does. It may be a more narrow case, but if you are net-new to the scene, any social proof can help a ton. I do agree that you shouldn't spend a bunch of time on it though unless it is serving the narrative of sharing who you are and why folks should care (for example, funny stories or cool insights can shed more light on yourself). While you can show some personality with slides, I generally dislike them and think folks should challenge themselves to be more creative with how they show themselves off. I've seen some VTubers treat debut like a "react stream of themselves", and you can use that as a trip down memory lane, or a way to introduce folks to your content and who you are for example. Think outside of the box for how you share yourself with others. When you touch on lore videos/MVs, I think you put too much weight on them specifically. At worst, they are just hype pieces shared during an event. The reality is that the content that tells folks about you has always been between the things you share - the conversations. If we want to look at the benefit of lore videos / MVs themselves, they do share your aesthetic and preferences in small-to-medium ways, which does help develop your theming and brand in general. It's only an issue if it is completely out of character, which I'd say is a different type of problem of folks trying to be someone they aren't because they think VTubing is about role play exclusively.

In summary; keep it simple, make it entertaining to the viewer, limit the info you share to you as a vtuber (with a nod to other people), show don't tell about your content, and don't set much of an expectation so viewers will HAVE to come back to see what you are actually doing.

I think taking a long time going over credits might be a bad idea but as a viewer I actually do care who made the model and rigged it. That's why I watch vtubers or I'd just go watch other streamers. Also crediting in the areas people generally don't look at is a disservice to the people who spent time and effort to make your stuff possible. Not saying your wrong about length taken on certain things but like yeah as a viewer I actually do care a lot about the artists behind the models.

I agree with what you said here. Debuting is NOT inherently bad at all, but I think we created a lousy expectation that many people need to make an excellent yet very expensive model to get attention. In other words, clout-chasing imo. There are more things valuable than just a fancy model. Of course, at the end of the day, it is your choice whether to get a fancy yet expensive model or upgrade to your current model. It's funny that you uploaded this because a little bit beforehand, I decided to get a new gender-bent PNG model for myself, but I will want to eventually get a live 2D model. I know the live 2D model is expensive, so I want to start small and go with PNG instead as a start. Maybe I will get the live 2D model if I reach a certain milestone, like 1000 subs, by the end of the year, or get my YT channel monetized. I don't think I will have a debut for the PNG model, but I will use it for making a content that my audience, including potential new people can enjoy watching.

Ngl, I never watch indie Debut videos/streams because to me it is kinda over the top, excessive and pointless. They show up with all this lore, likes, dislikes, and whatever, only for it to be pretty much discarded, vaguely referenced or forgotten in a couple streams down the line. And in half a year's time they come with this entirely new model and they do a whole new debut event for that as well, and I just find it kinda dumb, personally, because I just got attached to this character, but now that is gone. It makes sense for agency vtubers to debut, because they tend to also be actual idols, with managers, staff, and all of that. A random twitch vtuber likely have none of that, they could just fire up a stream and say "Hey yo, I'ma play some Pocket monsters" And then there is the whole thing about indies "graduating" Why? Why do you have to graduate? You're not held down by anyone. Everything is yours. Quitting entirely just makes no sense, and I feel it is done purely to check a box on the Vtuber list of things to do... And then of course in a few months they show up again with a brand new debut (sometimes), because oh, it was kinda dumb to graduate after all. EDIT: Of course I am not saying you can't debut, you do whatever you want. And the things you guys make are really cool. But did it have to be a "debut"? "debut" to me feels like this "vtuber" checklist thing everyone has to do for some reason, even though the majority of your audience never even saw it because they came in afterward. Though I guess that's partly why Vtubers feel like they have to "debut" AGAIN later on..

To me this "debut culture" sounds like it's just another poorly executed concept that was taken from idol culture. Imo the only way to make this concept work is to go about it the same way kpop groups do their album showcases. You have your debut album showcase, and then another showcase for each new album as well. (However since not all vtubers make music, obviously you'd have to change things up to suit the content that you make.) Difference is that Kpop album showcases only contain a few things to not overwhelm new fans with useless info dumps. They follow a pretty strict order of events 1. group performs a song or two 2. mc introduces themself 3. mc brings group back on stage 4. group does their group introduction and then proceeds onto quick individual ones 5. mc makes small talk w the group and they talk a bunch about the songs they just performed and maybe a recent special event like a birthday or smth 6. group performs another song or two, maybe three 7. group plays a short little game narrated by the mc, more talking about their music 8. maybe perform another song 9. group plays games for a much longer time 10. group says their goodbyes and plans for future activities 11. group then maybe comes back on stage to perform one last song This typically accumulates to an hour and a half of footage, gives viewers the chance to naturally see your personality instead of you just yapping about yourself, shines plenty light on whatever talent/work you do, gives time to briefly go over your credits, consistently keeps viewers focused and solves the common viewer retention issue, and best of all it can be very affordable if you go about it right.
@Mysdia7 ай бұрын
30 Min. debuts and excessively lavish spending seem like massive mistakes. That's not doing the best possible effort to keep people excited, sell the channel while people are excited, and hook them on the streamer and their content. People leaving their debut streams so short to 30 minutes seems like a massive waste, since most viewers who just came for debut Won't be back, even if they would have been happy to stay longer for a longer debut. That is it seems a waste dumping the viewers early without giving 'em A full length stream of the streamer's best content and strongest chance of hooking people.
