I taught an undocumented Mexican woman to speak English, at the library's ESL program. She and her husband and their community could teach us all a thing or two about loving and sharing and welcoming. Brought her some bags of Chinese takeout for her birthday so she didn't have to cook when she got home from work, and she went and got the family upstairs to join us. And they brought stuff to add to the party. Before you knew it, there were 25 people crammed into the kitchen and living room...food seemed to multiply like the loaves and fishes.

I thought to withdraw from this, but now have the courage to still offer love, all the while not taking in the hate as I know it comes from fear. I will naively, continue to offer them love and yet continue to not engage them in their hate and fear. They may never change and that is their choice, but I offer love first for my sake as that is how I see the world and the need, it is my choice how I must live. The path to love will always be there for them, even if they choose not to walk it with me. This may be selfish of me, but it is the gift that I can give them freely and without strings. Dear Reverend Ed. I want to thank you for lifting my spirits as I listen to your teachings and opinions. I literally can feel the anger, bitterness and resentment that has been growing inside of my soul towards evangelicals and religion since I had my political awakening during the 2019 primaries and I found Bernie Sanders. I was brand new in politics and I truly believed he was gonna win the presidency and fix our problems. Boy howdy, it’s been a painful journey since those days. Learning the good, bad and (mostly) ugly of politics, seeing “christians” wrapped in US flags, holding crosses in one hand, military style rifles in the other, denying desperate refugees has shut down my faith in Christianity. I’ve lost my friends and family who claim “Christianity” but worship trump. They see me different with my new found political beliefs. Just as I am disappointed in discovering who they really are. I’m Pro choice, M4A, equality..the things that Texans refer to as communist, socialist and Marxism is my new identity to many. I’ve struggle terribly and have become isolated and withdrawn from everyone. Confused about who I’ve become..being different. In my spirit I have felt their ways didn’t line up w the Jesus I felt I knew. I feel you are speaking straight to my heart and soul. It’s like a confirmation from God that I may not always be right but I’m certainly not wrong or bad bc of where I stand politically. I thank you for helping restore my faith in God. Reverend Ed, This is a bit off topic, but I want to thank you for doing this channel. I was born and raised Roman Catholic and was active in our community for decades, up until about 10 years ago. Because of internal politics in our community, and after appeals to our bishop at that time which were rebuffed, I decided that I had to leave the Catholic Church. I still view the Church as filled with much corruption in the pursuit of power. This is not, nor ever has been, the Gospel teaching. I have only been to a few masses in the past ten years, all of them funerals of friends or family. Since leaving the Church , I have started to sort through the things I learned as a Catholic. Much of it I deem to be story telling or legend. In my view, that doesn't mean it is any less worthy, but only insofar as it seems to support and teach the essential message. In my turning away from the Church, my spirituality has become more a voyage of discovery. An important read for me is Sam Keen's "In the Absence of God, Dwelling in the Presence of the Sacred". It explains the need to go into the wilderness and rediscover those fundamental emotions, the ones at the root of all religions and spiritual traditions. Once discovered, and reaffirmed, then I can re-enter the world and engage with it with my new understanding. It's a powerful book. I have never actually turned away from Christ's message of Love but I practice it, or at least try to, in my daily interactions. I fail on many occasions but overall I think I'm adding to the positive side of the ledger. While I do not think I will ever return to the Catholic Church, I admit that the traditions and rituals are deeply ingrained in me, and I *feel* them in memory and in song. Having said all of this, I recognize the importance of regular reinforcement of being called to *live* the Gospel, even if I do not attend formal religious services. Your channel actually provides me, and likely many others, with that connection to the core message. So I want to say "Thank you". You do good work. BTW, I also like Beau of the Fifth Column, as much as you do, lol. He is what I would refer to as a "secular prophet". Peace!

I'm Catholic also, I'm so sorry you had such an experience. My hometown Church was wonderful. Our priest sounded like the Rev. here. I know that's not always the case. The Church still has many flaws. Just know not all Catholics are like that❤️ May the Lord bless and keep you.

That is the way I’ve become. Thru watching this channel, I’ve increased my belief in mankind. I look at it this way… “God knows they’re the s… They don’t need us to tell them all the time. There’s a lot of work to do, and if I work on it, pretty sure God will make room for me.”
@jmelinda62322 жыл бұрын
My background is very much like yours. I even sponsored someone thru RCIA, which was like living at church for 8 months. Then went through several experiences, with both laity and clergy, that led to me leaving 20+ years ago. Had a dream back then that I lost my gym bag. Someone asked what was in it, and I described a washed out t-shirt, yoga pants with bleach spots, a broken lock...even the bag was frayed. I.e., all stuff that had served me well but needed replacing. Hard to do when you're culturally Catholic, so like you I just did my own thing and, you know, God is good. Anyway, you might start looking around at other denominations. They all have websites and services on KZbin, because of the pandemic, and like here, so much 'core content.' It's been eye-opening for me.

@kevynnedallaire18152 жыл бұрын
@@howardcohen6817 . Oh, to be clear, I am not feeling like this is a fail/success thing for me. Far from it, actually. In many ways, stepping away from my Catholic zeitgeist has allowed me to explore things much more fully without being locked in to any doctrine per se. I'm feeling common threads in my Catholicism, but also in my Celtic roots, and have this sense that there is a shared life in native spirituality too. In essence, I'm able to explore the mysteries I see around me with a sense of awe and wonder and appreciation and gratitude and joy. This is as it should be. But I'm aware that being outside of a discussion of these things can, if one is not careful, lead to atrophy of one's spirituality. In that sense, it s important to commune with others of like mind, if only as fellow pilgrims on the path. These videos by Reverend Ed allow me to do that, even though it isn't in person. And what I love about his messages (sermons?) is that they are grounded in the substance of the gospel message, not in theological arguments trying to explain some doctrine. His stuff is real. Thanks for the comments, all.

M. Scott(sp.?) Peck offered in a book many years ago and I'm paraphrasing: love is the willingness to extend ourselves for the sake of the growth of ourselves or another. The hardest thing for me in my long life has been to let go of the need to control to feel safe and secure. The animal instinct for self preservation in this physical body is very powerful. Replacing the doubt and fear of animal instinct with trust and faith in Divine Love is a journey I'm still on.
@DairyAir2 жыл бұрын
Like, but… can you interpret that for a construction worker?
@ann7452 жыл бұрын
@@DairyAir I would love to do so if I could understand which part needs interpretation but here goes. Beloved Jesus said that Perfect Love casts out all fear (and doubt). In essence, Love is more powerful than the human animal's instinct to avoid danger, injury or death. For modern humans, it is as much a threat in how we see ourselves and the world (psychological and emotional threat) as threat to the physical body. Peck was saying we have to work on ourselves, question, challenge and possibly change our beliefs and attitudes about self and others to grow. These attitudes and beliefs are most often formed in childhood based on the people around us. For me it began with therapy many years ago. Now, it is an ever expanding relationship with that I hold to be Divine. Hope this helps to clarify.

Not only has the Church followed love but some individuals have done this too saving People from the Sea fleeing a Country for their lives after being told its against the law to do so. These People choose to do the right thing God's way and it was the decision we all should make. Helping People is never wrong we are not here on Earth to judge we are here to serve God and everything he created. I keep hoping we all could realize this and then do it the best we can. He has given you stewardship over them. He has given you the use of them. But, if you are a true believer, it’s all Gods. If you can learn to live with this idea? There is no fear of loss. I shudder when I hear the word "religion" now - no matter the type. Everyone should read Mathew 25:41-46. Add so much to what he is saying.

I believe the love based world Rev T is describing is possible. I actually believe it’s our purpose as humanity Love is Verb. Heaven is a verb too, we’ve made a mistake thinking we will enter Heaven at death. That future based thinking deprives us of the impetus to live as our best selves in the moment. And Heaven can only exist in a moment in the Now. It is our mission to make it real for everyone

I stick to my story….Spiritual Anarchy is inevitable, now. We shall understand and hear each other when we grieve with one another. Today, we, as a nation grieving, yet again, for the senseless murder of children. Frightening to think we ELEVATE OURSELVES AS THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH! We are a pack of blind consumers with no self respect, self worth nor self esteem….we can only give what we have. And, our new politicians are a perfect picture of who we are. God HELP US ALL! Thank you again, for clarity in the darkest of days…..

So glad this did not directly state the implication made by the title. The call to love others requires I address my own frustration and unwillingness to accept everyone including MTG and others who seem to need fear in their world to motivate and unite people.

We’re all in pain. We’ve been used and our trust has been abused. Invisible wounds.

@@DairyAir so true and it applies to everyone one of us, the only truly bipartisan actions in our government lately.
