I find this type of comment quite regularly about popular artists. Just because they're not popular now, doesn't mean they are underrated. He was rated highly back in the day.

What does Mark Chesnutt, George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Clay Walker, The "Big Bopper" Janis Joplin, Johnny and Edger Winter, Tex Ritter and Harry James all have in common? They all grew up within 30 miles of each other in Beaumont, Texas.

Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana Royalty!!!!! I had the privilege, and I do mean privilege, of seeing Mark play many times in Southwest Louisiana, where I'm from, before he was a national superstar. He was superstar in our area for years before the rest of the country knew him.

A lot of what is on country radio these days are NOT true country artists and groups sad to say😔 The songs don’t tell stories like the days of listening to George Jones for example “He stopped lovin her today” could never be matched with the fluff now being heard. Country music had Steel ,Fiddle, and a clean guitar sound not all rock distortion. Real country had words that could make you feel loved, hurt or happy and most of the songs were about real life. The powers behind this are too young to know what works they now try to make country mainstream that sounds like today’s Pop and I never agreed with.
