That was a blast from the past a propper bit of the original east enders good acting and a nice slap. That's when the stories were believable and understanding not made up pantomimes. I never liked a lot of things about school either: boring school games in bad weather, some of the kids and the teachers, and some of the subjects that sent me to sleep. I did knuckle down and get 7 O levels and 3 A levels, but it never qualified me for these so called professions we were pushed to go for. Mark Fowler was right.

Alot of Soaps go through that process. In the 1980's The US Soap Opera Guiding Light was a hit, then they "Fired" Ellen Parker who played Maureen Reardon Bauer #2, the fans were outraged, then they Fired Michael Zaslow as Roger Thorpe who was one of the greatest Soap Villians on US Soaps for having Lou Gherig's Disease. In 2008 they went from filming the Show in New York's CBS Broadcasting Center to Peapack, NJ where they used Digital Cameras. It was awful it looked more like Home Movies and by 2009 the show was cancelled.

I agree that the acting isn't great but the story lines then are miles better than they are now. I was born in 91 so grew up with the 90/ 2000s era (which was goooood) a lot better that the shit it's turned into now, but watching episodes from the 85-89 period of eastenders there's no competition. It was dramatic without coming across as ridiculous and the characters like Den and Angie, Lou, Pauline, Michelle and lofty etc. have so much more about them then the characters now.

@@jaywest3734 yeah they lost so many huge characters relatively early on. Way more than other soaps. Setting it in East London didn't help. Has become more and more unbelievable as time has gone on. On Corrie and Emmerdale you can still probably get streets and villages like that.

God, that's so sad. In the US there was a Soap Actor named Benjamin Hendrickson who played Detective Harold "Hal" Munson on As The World Turns. He killed himself and they said he died in the line of duty.
